Introduction of Rugby in the Upper East Region

As part of efforts to expand the reach of rugby and introduce the sport to new communities, an introductory rugby session was held at ABULU Primary School in the Upper East Region.

The initiative was introduced by Grace Aduntira, a player of the Ghana National Women’s Rugby Team and a teacher at the school, whose passion for the game is helping bring rugby to young learners in her community.

The session engaged 22 students, providing them with their first exposure to the game. Participants were introduced to the basic principles, values, and fundamental skills of rugby, including passing, teamwork, communication, and respect.

The students showed great enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, actively participating in the practical activities and demonstrating a strong interest in the sport. The introduction of rugby at ABULU Primary School marks an important step in growing the game in the Upper East Region and creating opportunities for young people to engage in sports development.

Through such initiatives, rugby continues to promote physical activity, teamwork, discipline, and inclusion among young learners across Ghana.
