Believing in yourself doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a learning process and there are 5 specific principles that I cling to when the journey gets tough.

PERSISTENCE. because success is a game of odds. The more you try the closer you get. Learn to blank rejection.

SACRIFICE. because it’s necessary to become new. Stop trying to hold on to what’s holding you back.

CONSISTENCY. see persistence. Self possession is ease cultivated through effort.

DISCIPLINE. because motivation won’t last. Lock in and keep moving until you get a second (third or fourth) wind.

HARD WORK. because success is what happens when luck and timing meet preparation. Control what you can to be ready when your number comes up.

Stability and mobility aren’t opposites partners for a good reason. 💪

I enlist my “powerhouse” muscles for stability and allow my spine to articulated, one vertebra at a time.

Agility built from the inside out, and feels fluid, not frantic. Where in life do you wish your body moved more smoothly? 👇

Pilates is not the reformer. I know social media has made it look like the whole method. But the reformer is just a tool.

The entire Pilates method actually boils down to 36 mat exercises, and every other piece of apparatus—the reformer, the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair, the Spine Corrector, the Barrels, the Pedi-Pole—was built to help you understand those mat exercises more deeply. The apparatus is a teacher’s aid. The mat is the test.

If you only ever take reformer class, you’re getting one chapter of the book. Try the others.

Often you’ll find them in a private or small group setting, which might be more of an investment, but the ROI is amplified. The knowledge you acquire will change how you move on the reformer, too.

Still learning to use my words. It’s a miracle I’ve made a career in public speaking (essentially) … 🥴

This is a Side Sit-Up on the Ladder Barrel— it looks acrobatic. It is, a little. Joe Pilates was a a circus performer and a boxer, and developed his “Contrology” method alongside the dance community. The exercises are sometimes dramatic but principles not as much.

But this shape doesn’t happen because of flexibility.
It happens because every fundamental I learned is still doing the work underneath it. The scoop. The breath. The lateral line. The unglamorous, foundational pieces most of us are quick to move past.

Start there. Return there. The shape is the proof. The preparation is the practice.

Respect the process.

Cross-legged sitting isn’t the universal “good posture” we treat it as.

If your hips are tight—and most of ours are—sitting flat on the floor pulls the pelvis into a posterior tilt. The low back rounds. The chest collapses. The hip and knee joints absorb the load that the deep core should be doing.

Two simple fixes:

🤍 On the FLOOR: elevate your hips on a block, cushion, or folded blanket. Even an inch of lift restores the natural tilt of the pelvis and lets the spine stack honestly.

🤍 On the REFORMER: straighten your legs on either side of the carriage instead of crossing them. You’ll feel the core engage almost immediately because the pelvis is finally in position to support it.

Posture is about position, not effort. Give your body the lift it needs, and the rest of the work gets easier.
Save this for your next class. 🤸🏼‍♀️

Save this for days when you’ve got good intentions to workout, but your energy is on the floor.

Start there. On the ground, with a block or a pillow in between your knees, take deep cooling breaths. The first action is no movement. Don’t overthink it.

When you’re ready, follow these movements. Or maybe you decide to stay on the floor and keep breathing. Either way, you’ll know after a few moments. Your body will let you know, so try to listen.

Learning to regulate your nervous system will make future exercise all the more effective. Movement should help you feel more present and alive. 🤍

Summer is coming and so are the requests to “tone” the arms. My favorite answer is the California Rowing series.
3 positions. 3 rounds. The hand weights get suspicious by round three.

🤍 Curls 🤍 Rows 🤍 Hugs … Very sneaky.

My preferred modification is for oblique hugs: work only the bottom arm. Shoulder or neck issues? Lose the weights entirely. Bodyweight is more than enough and keep focus on an uplifted core.

Save this one for when summer hits. 🔥

If your shoulders are tight, this is for you. 🙋🏼‍♀️

The Push-Through Bar is the tool I reach for often when I’m coaching the shoulder connection – known in Pilates as the “second powerhouse.” Most of us train the core and hips obsessively and forget that the shoulder girdle needs the same kind of articulation work.

A note: start without the spring. Tight shoulders need time to release and build awareness before you load them. Work the movement clean first. This is great prep for bigger extensions—Cobra, Upward Dog, anything that asks your shoulders to work.

Save this for your next playtime. 🤸🏼‍♀️
