Following this advice from CCA please note Tigers is cancelled for this weekend

Events and gatherings should be immediately cancelled following new positive cases.

4 new positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed yesterday evening in Guernsey. There is concern that it is not immediately clear how these 4 individuals contracted the virus, as none are directly from travel or the contacts of known cases or travellers. Contact tracing is continuing to determine whether there is a link between the cases and whether these cases are linked or this is as a result of wider community seeding.

All Islanders are advised to adopt social distancing measures.

The CCA will be holding an urgent live COVID-19 Press Briefing at 12noon today on the States of Guernsey page, gov.gg/coronavirus and local radio and updates will be provided throughout the day on social media and through the traditional media.

This morning we said a massive thank you to Eddie who retired from bowls coaching today. Eddie played such an instrumental role in junior bowls in Guernsey and we can't thank him enough! Over countless years he's coached numerous players who have gone on to represent the island on the international stage, a lasting legacy.

We’re very excited to have the Bowls Scotland coaching team working with us on Saturday - hopefully a great opportunity to bring on our skills!

Bowls Scotland is delighted to announce that our Development Team will be co-ordinating the Bowls Scotland coaching courses for other countries at the upcoming European Championships.

The Head of Coach and Volunteer Development Craig Bolan, National Development Officer Lawra Cox, and Tutor Adam Martin, will make the trip to Guernsey this week to begin delivering courses to other nations from around Europe.

This programme has been funded by World Bowls with Bowls Scotland’s coaching courses being chosen due to their high quality content and effective delivery.

The Development Team will provide four days’ worth of classes that will include the ‘Introduction to Bowls Coaching Award’ and ‘Level 1 Bowls Coaching Award’ being delivered. There are 50 bowlers from all around Europe set to attend these classes between Thursday 19th – Sunday 22nd September. A session will also be delivered for the Guernsey Tigers Juniors to show the coaching qualifications in action and support coaching for the youngsters of Guernsey.

Head of Coach and Volunteer Development Craig Bolan, said: “Bowls Scotland are delighted to deliver our coaching awards at the European Championships.

“It has been fantastic working in partnership with Garry Collins of World Bowls and Bowls Guernsey to organise and promote the courses.

“We have worked hard to develop our coaching awards and we are proud that they have been recognised by the other European Bowls governing bodies as being of a high standard. Our tutors are looking forward to supporting and developing coaches from a range of countries attending the Championships.”

Bowls Guernsey Secretary and Chairman of the 2019 European Championships Organising Committee, Garry Collins, said: “Firstly, I am delighted to be working with Bowls Scotland in delivering coaching courses before the 2019 European Championships as we tabled the idea two years ago at the previous championships in our host bid document.

“With also being the World Bowls Director for Europe, I am keen coaching is pushed to all countries, especially new countries and the idea has been taken up by the Board to promote ahead of all major championships if possible.

“In Guernsey, we plan to form a new coaching committee and offer coaching to all new members joining the clubs for free, with the aim to get some members fully trained to Level 2 standards.”
