Match Report🚨🏏

Last Saturday Yoxford visited Acton in a 2nd v 3rd clash.
A baking hot day,Yoxford won the toss and elected to field first.

Missing Max Denny who was recuperating and opening bowler Ed Borrett who was unwell.
Nick Denny and Neil Emsden stepped up to make sure we had the full compliment of players.

Hancock and Brett opened the batting for Acton and although Yoxford were not familiar with the Acton side, previous match stats suggested these two are the main run scorers and premium wickets.
That said there was disappointment all round when Will Driver, opening the bowling, brought about a false shot from Hancock only to see it dropped at extra cover in the first over!!
In Drivers next over Hancock played a sumptuous straight drive for 4.
Driver replied with a beautiful delivery pushed across the left hander using the slope of the wicket, taking the outside edge and safely gloved by keeper Thurston.

The drop didn’t prove costly and Hancock was gone for 11 (15-1)

Miller joined Brett and proceeded to hit the ball to all parts in his own unorthodox way, while Brett batted sensibly.

Tom Driver beat the bat with some good deliveries but couldn’t find the edge,as did Max Stacey.

It was a story of the good ball was too good and anything else was swiped away by miller.
Brett however was batting solidly and looked good,he passed 50 and was on 53 when he popped up a catch to point off Aust which was well taken by Josh Emsden.146-2

From then on it was a case of 6 or a single as all the batsmen batted the same way.
David Driver replaced Tom and bowled a tight spell going for 38 off 9 and having a couple of chances dropped off his bowling.
Aust removed Martin for 14 caught by max stacey.168-3

Miller by now was tapping and running singles and making his way to his maiden century.
Unfortunately for him he chipped an easy caught and bowled back to Aust and was out for a very effective 91. 207-4.
Aust finished his spell and Will Driver returned.

Whitehart had made 42 with some huge blows but couldn’t clear max stacey and was caught for 42.232-5
Isla Emsden had the unenviable job of bowling the final overs in partnership with Will.
She got to work straight away when French was caught by max stacey for 5.239-6
Driver then struck when Wenborn was caught in the covers by Neil Emsden for 19. 249-7

Freddy quelch batted nicely turning away 2 balls on his legs both for 4 before becoming Islas 2nd victim caught for 12 by Chris Mears.261-8

Driver had Daniel fisher caught behind by Thurston for 8.261-9

Isla wrapped the innings up when she bowled Garner for a 🦆.
Acton 265 all out
A good effort from Yoxford considering Acton brought their 100 up in the 11th over!

David Driver and Chris Mears opened the batting against James French who got the ball to swing but struggled to control it early on.
Garner opened the other end bowling cutters.

French started dropping the ball short to Mears and was pulled for four each time.
Driver picked up a ball off his legs from Garner that raced away down the hill for 4.
Yoxford were getting away to a solid start before Mears was bowled by a good ball from French that nipped back off the seam for 16. 26-1

Aust joined Driver and the pair batted well together keeping the scoreboard ticking over without taking any risks.
Brett replaced French.

Driver threw the kitchen sink at a wide delivery but only managed to feather a catch through to keeper Hancock and was gone for 25.69-2.

Knowing that Yoxford didn’t have the deep batting line up they usually do,new batsman Tom Driver and Aust batted very sensibly keeping up with the run rate and looked like they were going to comfortably see Yoxford home.
They both brought up there 50s and the outfield was much quieter than it was at the start of the innings.
Tom who never looked truly “in” and wasn’t as fluent as he usually is although still playing some quality shots offered up a simple catch to the cover fielder miller off Chris fisher and was caught for 54 having put on 140 with Aust.209-3
Max stacey at 5 was trapped lbw by Whitehart for 8, 217-4

Will Driver at 6 stayed in with Aust and it still looked like Yoxford could win.

Aust was then bowled by Whitehart for a very well made 85.226-5 A superb knock that all involved with Yoxford would’ve dearly loved to have seen turned into 3 figures.

Thurston and Driver battled away but couldn’t get the ball away often enough.
Thurston was caught behind off Chris Fisher for 7.240-6.
Needing too many off the last over the batsmen sensibly decided not to hand the opposition more bowling points, ending the innings 244-6
Will Driver 8 not out
Josh Emsden 0 not out.
Any other week Yoxford could well have chased this down but then again could have easily been chasing a lot more.

Coming away with 10 points was a good effort against a good side and is more than most teams will bring away from Acton this season.
West mersea at home next week

Match Report🚨🏏

On a scorching hot May bank holiday Saturday, Yoxford welcomed Boxted to Grove Park.

Yoxford won the toss and elected to bat.

Boxted opening bowlers Evans and Hayes both bowled impressive spells.

With Evans swinging the ball away and the left arm hayes pushing the ball across the opening pair of David Driver and Chris Mears, runs were hard to come by.

After 10 overs only 27 runs had been scored. Finan replaced Evans.

A lengthy and energetic run up flattered to deceive and Evan’s was taken for 36 from 4 overs

Due to the heat, drinks were taken at 15 and 30 overs and by the first drinks brake Yoxford had picket up the run rate and were 62 for no wicket.

Boxted had already dropped a catch and this set the trend for the rest of the innings!

Jones replaced finan.

Driver was timing the ball well now and didn’t want to let the bowlers settle taking Jones for 18 in his 3rd over after bellehewe had gone for 14 a couple of overs before.

Mears continued in support and the pair had put on 124 before Mears chopped on a full toss from Cosham for 44. 124-1

Making a return to the Yoxford team after a long absence,Max Stacey came in at 3.

A last minute call up to replace the unwell Aust.
Unfortunately he only scored 1 before he was trapped lbw by jones.125-2

Tom Driver joined Driver senior and they put on 28 before David, who by now was on 91 (3 6s 13 4s)attempted another straight 6,played on and became coshams 2nd victim.153-3

Jake smith was back in the area for the weekend and celebrated his birthday batting at 5 for Yoxford.

A little rusty,Jake soon got into the swing of things and with Tom hitting the ball to all parts the other end ,Yoxford looked set to make a good total.
Smith departed for 18 caught by Evans off Sullivan having shared a stand of 61 with Tom 214-4.

Josh Emsden joined Tom and only managed to score 1 after his entertaining cameo last week, bowled at the end of a very good over from bellehewe.219-5

Boxted continued to drop some fairly simple catches and some more difficult ones.

One of the more difficult chances was caught at long off by Evans to remove Tom Driver for 80 off 52 balls(4 6s 10 4s) who was in full flow by now and with 2 overs to go could easily have made a century.254-6

Max Denny and Will Driver pushed the total up to 265 with some good running and a nice 4 through the covers from Will.
End of innings Yoxford 265-5.

Boxted got their innings off to a good start with skipper Radley punishing anything loose from the Yoxford opening bowlers Will Driver and Ed Borrett.

Borrett got the breakthrough when Evans was out lbw for 12 at the end of the 9th over.

Boxted were already 60-1.
Will was only going at 4 an over and bowling with good pace but couldn’t get a breakthrough and was replaced by his brother Tom.

S Evans came in at 3 and he and Radley batted well together.
Evans had made 25 when he cut a delivery from Tom and was caught by David Driver at point.104-2

2 balls into his next over Tom got the wicket Yoxford needed when he clean bowled Radley for a very well made 62 with a beauty that pitched on middle and knocked over off stump.
109-3.

In the same over
Driver had been called for a very tight wide and used the extra ball to clean bowl Sullivan for a 🦆110-4.

Cosham on 19 played a very nonchalant shot for 4 and tried to do the same the very next ball but this time was caught for 23 at full stretch above his head by Will Driver and became Toms 4th victim 141-5.

Thomson went shortly after bowled by Max Denny for 9 141-6.

4 runs later Tom Driver claimed his fivefer when Bellehewe was caught at slip by Mears off another good ball for a 🦆 145-7.

Isla Emsden replaced Tom Driver and despite being hit for 2 4s in a row by S Evans didn’t let this bother her and bowled him 2 balls later for 13.154-8.

Jones and Hayes were causing the Boxted Tail to Wag and had put on 52,forcing Yoxford to bring Tom Driver back on to try and break the partnership which he duly did when he had Jones (16)caught by David Driver at mid on.206-9

finan in at 11 had put 20 on with Hayes when Jake Smith came back on to try and wrap the innings up. Hayes had made 31 when he hit a full delivery from Smith high into the air towards long on,David Driver made good ground and took a tumbling catch diving forwards to secure the final wicket.
Yoxford finally bowling Boxted out for 224 (finan 6 not out) and won by 41 runs. A great all round performance by Tom Driver, 80 off 52 ,6-32 off 9 and a 5-0 win on the dartboard at kelsale club including a 180!!

Despite their long journey home Boxted still made time to come down the kings head and blow the froth off a couple, good effort👍🏻!
This win moved Yoxford up to 3rd and next week we travel to 2nd place Acton.
