** SEASON REVIEW 2025/2026 **

As the final games of the season happened yesterday our season came to a close on what was a very progressive season for the club. We looked at the back end of last year like this season could be a struggle with players and commitment but we managed to recruit well as a club and put out squads of 14+ most weeks!

We finished the season with more than double the amount of wins to losses and at times looked like we could push for promotion but it wasn’t to be. To look at the table and see a team with only 2 losses in 24 games not get promoted just shows the quality that the top 4 teams produced over the course of the season with all averaging over 2 points a game. Any other season and our return would have been more than enough. We have to dust ourselves down and re-group as a club and look to go for the lot next season.

We wish Cliffe and Hampsthwaite the best of luck next season in Division One as we welcome Bishopthorpe and Watergate down from that division!

Also welcome Sporting Knavesmire back to our division after promotion from the league below alongside new side Brayton.

This does mean we say goodbye to Copmanthorpe and Barmby Moor who couldn’t get a win in the last few games to stay up and best of luck in the lowest division next season.

We wave goodbye to our manager Dave Laverack this season also as he moves on to new ventures and hoping to announce a new manager shortly to take the club on.

Thanks to all the clubs we have competed against this season and look forward to doing it all again in September.

We now focus on our presentation in a few weeks to celebrate the lads for this season!

** 2025-2026 SEASON…DONE **

We had nothing to play for with 4th guaranteed no matter what and our opponents knew a positive result could see them promoted and it showed in the first 25 mins as they raced into a 3-0 lead.

After that we controlled the game and came close before HT to narrow the deficit but some good saves and the post kept us out. 2nd half we came out the better once again and finally got our goal when Ben Neaves poor first touch landed at Jamie Gillies’ feet who turned and fired top corner from 25 yards.

Hampsthwaite started to panic asking ‘what the score was’ and ‘how long is left’ 👀 with 20 mins to play though a mistake at the back allowed them a tap in to seal the game and all 3 points.

They went on to get a couple more with us also getting another goal through Jamie Gillies who took his total for the season 34 goals!

Today was mainly about finishing our season and enjoying a few beers after the game which we are all well on the way to doing now in York! 🍻

Let’s see if Hampsthwaite actually post this result after ‘missing’ the reverse fixture off their social! 👀😂

On a serious note though congratulations to Hampsthwaite who look to have sealed promotion and good luck next season in Division One!

** FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON **

After results last week we had confirmed that we will finish 4th no matter what this season! A season which has seen us win more than double the amount of games we have lost and average more than 2 points a game!

In a unique season it still wasn’t enough for us to get promoted but definitely a season to build on for the lads next season and really challenge for the league title/promotion!

This is also the 1st Team Manager Dave Laverack’s final game in charge of the club after 6 years in charge and 18 years at the club as player and manager.

With nothing to play for and our hard work coming to an end, a long away trip on the cards has only seen 12 available with the old tradition of positions out of a hat on the lips of all the players! End of season p**s up follows the game in York so anything could happen on Saturday!

Hope to see many across to support the lads one last time this season!

** FOSS FINISH HOME GAMES WITH A WIN **

In a game which wasn’t for the neutral we came out with all 3 points as we cement 4th place and still have an eye on the top 3 spots after results from today! Leaving our opponents take it until the last game for survival.

We took the lead 10 mins before HT despite playing against 10 men for the majority of the game! Sam McAllister played the ball back to Dan Gibney who’s shot took a deflection into the back of the net. Knaresborough did hit back just before half-time and deserved it as we were poor throughout!

We came out quick in the second half and a Dan Gibney free-kick from 25 yards found the top corner to give us back the lead. It wasn’t until the 86th minute we sealed the win when the ball dropped in the box to Robin Cowley who poked the ball home.

We now wait for the final game of the season next week as we make the journey out to Hampsthwaite.

** LAST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON **

As the season draws to a close and we have all but cemented finishing in 4th unless some freak results fall our way! We say goodbye to this season at home on Saturday as we host Knaresborough Celtics in also our managers last home game in charge of the club after 6 seasons in charge and 18 years at the club!

With ourselves having nothing to play for it will sure be an interesting game as our opponents know after last nights results a win would all but relegate our local rivals Barmby Moor 👀 and keep them in the division for another season!

We won the reverse fixture 6-3 despite some very questionable referring so will be hoping of a better overall performance this time round! A win would take us onto 49 points securing our most points in a season since the title win in 2017!! Also most wins in a season since the same year! So plenty to play for!

Come down and support the lads!

** FOSS GET WELL BEATEN AND DESERVED **

Frustrating evening for us tonight as we came up against a full strength side with ourselves missing a few key players.

Cliffe dominated the majority of the match and we were lucky to come in just 1-0 down but did have chances to draw level against the run of play!

We knew we had to get the next goal but within 10 mins of the 2nd half Cliffe had clinched the game.

We now have a weekend of rest before playing our last 2 games. Nothing we can do now this season apart from end strong and effect the relegation battle and title race as we face two sides with a lot to play for!

** FOSS FACE TITLE CHASING CLIFFE **

We travel across to Cliffe on Wednesday with a small squad due to early notice of the game knowing we will face a tough test as Cliffe look to continue their title charge as we hope to mount as many points as possible in our push for promotion.

We know nothing but 3 points is good enough for us and with recent seasons games being close affairs it is bound to be a great game with a lot on the line!

We hope to see plenty across supporting the lads!

** FOSS STUMBLE TO ALL 3 POINTS **

We stay 2nd and in the race for promotion after an underwhelming performance today and will have to be better midweek to get all 3 points against Cliffe.

We started quick and scored within 4 mins when Dan Jacques played a long ball over the top which found Jamie Gillies who lobbed the keeper from 30 yards out.
The rest of the first half was mainly the away side and they got what they deserved on 24 and 28 mins as they took their lead into HT.

Changes were made at HT and it didn’t take us long to equalise when Dan Gibney swung the corner in and found Harry Collins head. 2 mins later we took the lead when Jamie Gillies played through Robin Cowley who calmed slotted past the keeper with it going in off the post. Stamford equalised again from the penalty spot after 70 mins.

We then made further subs and didn’t take long to regain the lead when Jamie Gillies fired the ball from a freekick into the top corner. We then made it secure when Dan Gibney converted from the penalty spot. With 5 mins left Nath Wright came in off the left and found the top right corner to seal the points.

Quick turn around before we play again away to Cliffe on Wednesday were we must improve.

MOM - Nath Wright

** FOSS LOOK TO END THE SEASON STRONG **

As we enter the last 4 games of the season we hope to win all 4 and give ourselves a very slim chance of promotion! We have 2 games in 5 days starting with a home game against Stamford.

We will be coming up against a completely different side to the one we beat 8-0 in the first game of the season for sure! They have since then picked up some good results and won 2 of their last 3 as they look to secure safety in Division Two!

We look to continue our winning run after the last two games and will be hoping to put pressure on the other 3 teams at the top of the league as the race for promotion hots up!

Hope to see plenty down supporting the lads!

** FOSS STAY IN PROMOTION RACE **

With Cliffe playing in a cup final and Hampsthwaite no fixture we had a chance to move up to 2nd and close the gap on 1st…which we took!

As we move into the last few weeks of the season we currently sit joint top after picking up all 3 points yesterday but the other teams have games in hand which come fast this week for them!

All we can do now is put as many points on the table and see what happens! Yesterday it was a tough fixture as we tried to overturn the previous result against Acomb. We went 1-0 up through Jamie Gillies who then doubled our lead from the penalty spot. Taking his tally up to 30 for the season and 9 goals in the last 3 games!

Just before HT Acomb could have pulled one back but their number 7 missed from 2 yards out! Acomb did get a goal back to make it a nervy finish but Ben Neaves did think he’d sealed the game when he took a wild swing at the ball with his right foot and found the top corner for his first goal of the season! Unfortunately it was ruled out for offside despite the ball to him being played backwards!

Acomb could have equalised with minutes to go but their number 7 couldn’t convert from 2 yards out again! Giving us all 3 points! We now wait and see what other results are in the week with teams playing Monday and Wednesday before we host Stamford Bridge on Saturday!
