Grade 3 met grand pliés for the first time… and apparently I was documenting their “torture” 😂 😇

They actually did brilliantly - new muscles activated, and dramatic reactions unlocked (probable sore legs the next day too).

One of my favourite things about being back is seeing everyone together again- old friends and new faces all working together, helping each other out and generally making the studio a very happy place to be. 🥰

Today marks the beginning of a very special new chapter for YRAD as we start the 2026/27 academic year as York’s specialist Ballet school.

From those magical first Ballet steps through to graded and vocational training, our focus is now entirely on providing high-quality Ballet teaching in a supportive, inclusive environment - helping every dancer develop strong technique, artistry, confidence and a genuine love of dancing.

I’m so excited to welcome our dancers back into the studio, meet those joining us for the first time and see what this new year brings.

Here’s to a wonderful year of learning, growing and dancing together. Welcome back, Dancefam! 💜

Introducing our 2026–2027 Head Students: Anna and Maisie!

Anna and Maisie are both senior students who first joined YRAD as juniors many, many years ago, and it has been such a privilege to watch them grow into the talented, kind and committed young women they are today.

As Head Students, they’ll be wonderful role models for our younger dancers, help to organise and support our class assistants, and play an important part in creating the positive, welcoming atmosphere that makes our so special.

Most importantly, Anna and Maisie will be friendly and approachable people for our students to turn to - particularly if there is ever something they don’t feel comfortable raising directly with a teacher or the Principal.

We know they’ll make a fantastic team. Please join us in congratulating our lovely new Head Students! 💜🩰

Could you help us?

We are looking for 3 extra chaperones / runners for our show on Sunday 28th June, approximately from 4:00pm–9:15pm @ King’s Theatre, Queen Ethleburgas Colliegiate (close to York & Harrogate)

We’re looking for anyone who already holds a current Chaperone Licence, or someone with a current DBS who may be able to support us.

This could be a YRAD family member, a friend of the school, or someone with relevant experience supporting young people at events or performances. (Dance teacher / school teacher / chaperone from another organisation etc)

If you may be able to help, or know someone who could, please get in touch as soon as possible.

We will be so grateful for anyone who can help us on our final performance, as we may otherwise have to cancel this last one 😞
