York Mountaineering Club

York Mountaineering Club York Mountaineering Club is a mixed-membership group spanning an age range from early twenties to early sixties. The club runs on a very informal basis.

People who are relatively new to outdoor activities can mix easily with more experienced mountaineers. Members interests vary, including hill walking, back-packing, munro bagging, indoor climbing, rock climbing, bouldering, mountain biking, alpine climbing, mountaineering, snow skiing, snowboarding and winter (ice) climbing. The Club has a long history and has been active since 1948. We extend a w

arm welcome to new members:- the only requirement is an interest in pursuing hill-going or climbing. Opportunities to develop outdoor skills can arise informally through participation. The Club also runs occasional skills courses and first aid courses. Although there will be many trips a year which will be advertised on the website, other trips are organised in the pub on Thursday. This may be a day out rock climbing in the Peak District or Yorkshire, or hill walking in the Lakes or Dales. There are regular weekend trips to Scotland the Lakes and Wales for both walking, climbing and mountain biking. Thursday night is the Socials night and is usually preceded by a visit to the Leeds, York or Harrogate climbing wall or a local crag followed by the odd jar in the The Knavesmire Pub, Albemarle Road, York, YO23 1ER. We meet in the pub at 10pm. The way to get started is to come along on a Thursday evening, and then join an outing.

The seven Macdonalds were attacking the house, with the woman inside. Until the menfolk returned and killed them. A memorial to this raid of 1620 began our route from Ardvorlich House by Loch Earn.

The Wales weekend started wet and windy. We stayed at the magnificent Glan Dena hut at the foot of Tryfan, owned by the Midland Association of Mountaineers. Lots of parking, a bunk room with no triple bunks and our very own lounge. Plus showers and a huge kitchen. Perfect.
