So so pleased with this horse ,
Joanna Jewell has kindly let Cara Adams help school her beloved pride,
It's really helping him as the schooling side is very consistent and allows Jo more time to hack him which is equally as important.
It's hard to believe going back you could hardly touch his sides, held yr breath going into trot and just didn't dare try a canter as he was so unpredictable and really knows how to throw some shapes, being sent back from a loan home labelled "dangerous", Any horse can be dangerous in the wrong hands ! People buying horses totally unsuitable for their capabilities is too common and sadly the horse generally gets the blame 😡!!!. We took him right back to the start with lots of longreining after turning him away to chill and reset.
He's an ex race horse and an anxious horse but starting to really enjoy and understand his work, Jo has done an amazing job and Cara is really helping with the supplying side of things , he's very very wooden on the right so lots of work but right canter is beginning to not feel like the wall of death , still very unbalanced but with this horse just being able to canter him on both reins is a massive break through, big thank you to Jo for putting a smile on Cara's face and allowing her to help with his schooling , it's nice to see her riding a horse where ALL parties are putting the work in as "consistency" is the 🔑!! 🥰

Jane surmon doing a great job today keeping manny in those "book ends "!! Manny loves to work in a long flat outline if you give him the chance to, so his work is lot s and lots of transitions , and transitions within the pace , short reins and to not let him pull you forward s so he can go on his forehand , using the schooling whip more so he doesn't become displacent to the leg , Manny is one of those horses that looks Alot easier than he actually is to ride , he doesn't make yr job easy at all !! 😆🥵

Emma has struggled for years to get her horse Esme on the bit , she likes to stick her nose out and can be tense .
On her first lesson I rode Esme to get a good feeling of how difficult she is and the best way forward .
My assessment was, she's very tight and stiff over her back , her poll and neck, she can't bend her neck independently of her body, she's quite dead off the leg especially left and over bends her neck to the right when going right so Alot to work on over the months, for now we're teaching her how to stretch so that will help with her relaxation and just getting her neck more supple , Emma also needs to learn how to be more effective with her riding so getting her to ride with longer reins and wider arms for now will get a better result and when more established in her way of going she can start to shorten them up , I worked Esme first for 15 mins working her deep and round to make things hopefully that bit easier for Emma , really looking forward to helping Emma improve Esme's suppleness and acceptance of the contact, she did a great job today 🥰👏

Lovely morning teaching at spaxton, it's really interesting teaching the same person on two TOTALLY different types of horses, wizz is a cob x welshx shire x ? Typical pony type , charges around bending his neck to the outside , short choppy tense steps and runs away from the leg , for him it was all about first teaching him turn on the forehand so he gets the idea of then moving sideways away from leg and not just forwards , he over bends the opposite way to Henry the second horse so Tess has to work them both differently, but the main thing was to keep them both straight , we then worked on lengthening wizz s frame especially in canter which he's very unbalanced in due to only ever cantering with his head up and out to the outside , lots of moving his neck to help soften it , Henry we work the opposite and shorten his frame , he's a big 17+ horse that would go as long as a boat if you let him , so after stretchy work it's short sharp transitions to engage the back end but not let him run off down hill in front either , its a real pleasure teaching Tess as she's so keen and really ambitious which I love, aiming to event them both next year and do some BD quest , starting with some intros for wizz so he can learn it's not all about wizzing round and get the canter more balanced at home . Well done Tessa Davis 👏👏🥰

Absolutely 100%agree with this article , issue 4 BD magazine
Why are young horses having joints injected at a young age, I believe they are pushed too early to perform in an advanced outline before they have done all the foundation work building the correct muscles and top line , and foot balance is not taken seriously enough in some cases

2 outings in a lorry for the first time and 2 trips to whw , first time with company for reassurance and second time alone, wat a star Annie ( Jane Surmon 4 year old mare) was 🤩, working mainly of going forwards, turning from the outside aids ( lots of squares) and straightness, and Jane keeping her left hand with a more consistent contact and not letting her over bend left. Another lovely mare bred by Jade Collins , I cannot rate her horses enough, the start they have at the beginning and her careful breeding program is just outstanding 🥰. Well done Jane , loving the journey with you ###

Jane Surmon had her second lesson today on her 4 yr old mare Annie.
She's been mainly hacking and is now going out solo 😃👏👏, and just doing a tiny bit of short sessions in the school.
Jane was a bit unsure of wat to do with her being very hollow in the trot as in the walk shes in a nice contact/outline, after assessing jane trot round, the main problem was pulling back on the inside rein , Annie not going forwards enough , and just a bit of confusion on both parts. I changed Jane's short whip for a longer schooling whip and checked she was happy in walk first with it. we just worked on sending Annie forwards with lots of voice praise as she really picks up on that and loves to please 🥰WHEN she was forward only then can jane just have a little conversation ( feel) through the reins to encourage Annie to accept a contact and work the right way round , also remembering as a youngster to prepare much sooner for things ie turning , corners .We're thrilled to bits with this mare , a credit to Jade Collins who breeds such lovely versatile horses and vicky heal who gave her such a great start to her ridden career when breaking her in 😊, at the end of the session Annie was joining up with me which is such a lovely feeling as you know they've put their trust in you and feel safe.💖
