Last week SASP joined local partners in Yeovil for a local co-design session focused on exploring how we can better support disabled children and young people to be more active, connected and included within their communities. 💙
The session brought together representatives from a wide range of organisations, including Activity Alliance, Somerset Parent Carer Forum, Yeovil 4 Family, Fairmead School - Friends of Fairmead, Goldenstones Leisure Centre, Sense, Somerset FA, Spark Somerset, Somerset Libraries Yeovil and many others. Together, we discussed how we can empower communities to create more inclusive opportunities for disabled children, young people and their families.
Some of the key themes identified included:
✅ Developing and supporting the local workforce to deliver inclusive activities.
✅ Improving support and information for families and carers.
✅ Ensuring the voices of children and young people are central to shaping future opportunities.
✅ Strengthening partnerships across the community to create more inclusive and accessible opportunities.
This work is being funded by the Peter Harrison Foundation , with SASP selected as one of four localities to receive funding over the next two years. Working in partnership with Activity Alliance, we will deliver place-based work focused on improving opportunities for children and young people with SEND, with this co-design session representing an important first step in shaping that journey.
