π€ΈββοΈ ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS vs ACRO DANCE β WHATβS THE DIFFERENCE?
We often get asked about βAcroβ, so we thought weβd clear up something that can be a little confusingβ¦
At Spirit, we teach Acrobatic Gymnastics β which is different from Acro Dance. Both involve incredible strength, flexibility and acrobatic skills, but they are two separate disciplines with very different focuses.
π Acrobatic Gymnastics is a competitive gymnastics discipline performed in partnerships β Womenβs Pairs, Menβs Pairs, Mixed Pairs, Womenβs Groups and Menβs Groups.
Gymnasts work together as tops, middles and bases, learning partnership skills including balances, throws, catches and dynamic elements, alongside individual gymnastics and tumbling.
Routines are performed to music and combine partnership work, individual skills and choreography β with gymnasts progressing through competitive pathways from their very first levels right through to international competition.
β¨ Acro Dance combines dance technique and choreography with acrobatic skills. The emphasis is on seamlessly incorporating skills such as walkovers, handstands, aerials and tumbling into a dance routine.
Thereβs certainly some crossover in the skills you might see, which is why the two can easily be confused, but the way they are trained, performed and competed is very different.
Both are fantastic to watch but not the same. π
So when you see us talking about Acro at Spirit, we mean Acrobatic Gymnastics! π€ΈββοΈ
And if your child already does Acro Dance, dance, gymnastics, cheer or another similar discipline, they may already have some brilliant transferable skills for Acrobatic Gymnastics too. π
