DRUNK PEOPLE & SELF DEFENCE 🍺⚠️

Most fights don’t start with criminals.
They start with alcohol.

You can’t out-argue someone with impaired judgement.
So stop trying.

🔥 Don’t match their energy.
Calm beats loud.

🔥 Keep distance.
Arm’s length. Exit behind you.

🔥 Use simple phrases.
“It’s all good.”
“No drama.”
“You’re right.”

You’re not trying to win.
You’re trying to leave.

Watch for the switch:
Jaw clench. Chest puff. Sudden silence.

That’s your cue — MOVE.

Your ego isn’t worth a criminal record.

Real strength is walking away.

Don’t use your car keys as a weapon

Car keys are often suggested as an improvised weapon — but in real life, that can create more problems than it solves.

Why using keys as a weapon is a bad idea

You may drop them under stress

They can be knocked from your hand easily

You risk injuring yourself

Once lost, you’ve lost your escape option

Your keys are often your only way out of the situation.

What keys are actually for

Getting into your vehicle

Locking yourself inside

Creating distance and leaving the area

A locked car with you inside is far safer than standing your ground.

Better use of car keys

Keep them secure in your hand or pocket

Use them to access and escape, not fight

Move toward your vehicle while maintaining awareness

If you can get into the car and drive away safely, the situation is already won.

Reality under stress

Adrenaline reduces grip strength and coordination.
Small, rigid objects are easy to lose and hard to control.

Understand Adrenaline

Adrenaline will only get you so far.

Tunnel vision, shaky hands, poor fine motor skills — all normal.

That’s why simple, gross-motor movements work best.

Give them the wallet

If someone is demanding property, your safety comes first.

Money, cards, and ID can be replaced.
You can’t.

Why compliance is often the smart option

A wallet is not worth escalating violence

Many confrontations end once the demand is met

Handing it over can break their focus and create an exit

Self-defence isn’t about pride — it’s about survival.

Why you shouldn’t keep sentimental items in your wallet

Wallets are high-risk items to lose or be stolen

Sentimental items can’t be replaced

Losing them adds unnecessary emotional damage

Keep photos, keepsakes, and irreplaceable items somewhere safer.

Practical reality

Bank cards can be cancelled

Cash can be replaced

Phones can be tracked or wiped

Most financial losses are temporary

Your wellbeing isn’t.

How to hand it over safely

Don’t argue or negotiate

Avoid sudden movements

Place or toss the wallet away from your body

Move in the opposite direction once they focus on it

Situational awareness is paramount

Self-defence starts long before anything physical happens.
If you understand your surroundings and the level of potential threat, you reduce the chances of ever needing to defend yourself.

What situational awareness really means

It’s not paranoia.
It’s calm observation.

Being aware of:

Who is around you

Where you are

What feels out of place

Where you can go if things change

Knowing your surroundings

Always have a mental note of:

Exits and escape routes

Blind spots and choke points

Obstacles you can use as barriers

Lighting, noise, and crowd density

You’re quietly answering the question:

“If this goes wrong, where do I move?”

Understanding threat levels

Not everything is a threat.

A simple breakdown:

Low – someone nearby but no unusual behaviour

Medium – odd movement, attention, closing distance

High – verbal aggression, targeting, blocking exits

Recognising escalation early gives you time and options.

Why this matters in real life

Distance beats techniques

Avoidance beats confrontation

Time beats strength

Most incidents can be prevented or escaped by noticing changes early.

Adrenaline will only get you so far

Adrenaline is a short-term survival boost.
It helps you react fast — but it doesn’t make you skilled, calm, or efficient.

What adrenaline does give you

Temporary strength

Faster reactions

Reduced pain awareness

Explosive effort for a few seconds

This is why people can push, shove, or break free initially.

What adrenaline doesn’t give you

Good decision-making

Balance and coordination

Endurance

Awareness of surroundings

Protection from panic or freeze

Once adrenaline spikes, fine motor skills drop, breathing becomes shallow, and tunnel vision kicks in.

The problem in real situations

Adrenaline burns fast.

It fades quickly

Fatigue hits hard

Movements become sloppy

Panic replaces aggression

If you’re relying on adrenaline alone, you’re relying on something you can’t control and can’t sustain.

Where training comes in

Training gives you:

Structure when chaos hits

Habits that work under stress

Positioning instead of strength

Breathing and movement to manage the dump

When you’re holding a baby, everything changes.
Your priority is protecting the infant, not “winning” a confrontation.

The strategy becomes:
👉 shield, move, escape

Key principles
1. The infant comes first

Keep the baby high and tight against your chest or shoulder

Chin down, elbows in — create a protective frame around them

Avoid extended arms or wide movements

Think: you are the shield.
