At Yateley we have a wide range of players from the junior section, where members are as young as 9 years old through to our oldest member who is 99 this year. We have 3 qualified coaches always on hand to te

A much‑loved Radio Frimley Park presenter has scooped one of the most prestigious honours in hospital broadcasting, bringing national recognition to the station and to Frimley Health.

Steve King’s powerful VE Day special has been awarded Gold for “Event of the Year” at the Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) Awards, which celebrate the very best hospital radio programmes from across the UK. The HBA judges described Steve’s programme as “a wonderfully executed programme, beautifully put together, with a compelling script and exceptional presentation.” They particularly praised the “use of archive and new voices”, saying the children who took part were “a particular highlight”.

The VE Day show blended archive recordings, moving personal reflections and contributions from younger listeners to commemorate the end of the Second World War in a way that was both respectful and uplifting. It was produced and presented entirely by volunteers, showcasing the creativity, care and dedication that Radio Frimley Park brings to patients, visitors and colleagues every day.

Steve said he was “thrilled and humbled” by the award, and paid tribute to the whole Radio Frimley Park team and the patients and families who support the station by sharing their stories and track requests. He also thanked the Voluntary Services team and colleagues across the hospital for their ongoing encouragement and practical support.

Radio Frimley Park has been part of the hospital community for many years, providing music, conversation and companionship to patients at the bedside, often at difficult or lonely moments during their stay. This national recognition is a fantastic achievement for Steve and the whole team, and a testament to the difference volunteers make across Frimley Health.

Happy new year to everyone. Hope you all have a brilliant 2026 on and off the bowls green.James

Day 5 and the final day of Eastbourne 2025. Here's the last report from our captain Alan Barrett:
"Well the Eastbourne tour has drawn to a close but not before an entertaining last night on Thursday and our final game at Hampden Park on Friday morning. You can see from one of the pictures the pace takes its toll on some of our older members. Unfortunately we lost Fridays game by 5 shots although we did share the rinks 3-3. We were not helped by Les May's rink giving away a Hot Shot and getting beaten very convincingly. We also had another wrong bias from Jan Vlok (5 in 5 days for Jan so he has been sent to Specsavers) and also one from Sue Darlow. Everyone on tour had a great time and the hotel is already booked for 2026!"
Thanks to Alan (who didn't lose a match all tour by the way, captains privilege 🤣) for sending me these reports all week and to Sue and Tracey for taking the photos. Well done to all that arranged the tour!!!
With the tour over, it's now the end of the outdoor season for 2025. I hope you all enjoyed the posts throughout the year. After a tough start to the season we have had some great times and results this year, let's hope for more next season. Come on the Yateley!!!! James

Eastbourne 2025 tour day 4.
Once again pur captain Alan Barrett has sent the below: "Day 4 of the Eastbourne Tour and unfortunately we came up against a strong Eastbourne Bowls Club. We had one winning rink by 1 shot and one rink that drew. The other 4 rinks lost quite heavily. The winning rink was Viv Whitehead, Trevor Hornby, Phil Lott and Steve King. We did have one wrong bias again from Brian Bligh. Hopefully we will fare better tomorrow at Hampden Park in the last game of the tour."
Hope you all enjoy the last game tomorrow and safe trip home. James

Day 3 of Eastbourne 2025.
Here's our daily report from Captain Alan Barrett. " Day 3 of the Eastbourne Tour. On another windy day we visited our old friends ROYAL SOVEREIGN BOWLS CLUB . Yateley managed to win by 4 rinks to 2 but by only 2 shots overall. Our highest winning rink was Jan Vlok, Brenda Briggs, Peter Tolworthy and Alan Barrett. It has come to the attention of the Captain that Jan Vlok bowled a wrong bias on Tuesday at Hailsham and then in todays games broke the all time record by bowling 3 wrong bias in one match!"
It's always nice to bowl at Our friend's royal sovereign they are always very welcoming. Hope the weather improves for the game tomorrow. James

Day 2 of Eastbourne 2025 tour.
Today was a busy day as per the report from Captain Alan Barrett:
"Day 2 of the Eastbourne Tour kicked off with the crazy golf competition with a new club trophy procured for this year. We had 19 crazy golf competitors, probably the highest ever. Despite all the normal bravado about winning before the event from Derrick Lott, he could finish only joint 3rd with Tim Nixon. Steve King came second but our first ever Ladies Champion was Sue Barrett with a score of 46 including a hole in one on the 18th to seal victory!!
Yateley had a far better afternoon on the bowls green at Hailsham winning 5 rinks to 1 and by a wide margin. The highest winning rink today was Andy Thompson, Janet Howell, Dave Lockley and Trevor Hornby."
Well done to sue for winning the Crazy Golf its nice to see so many people take part in that now as when it first started there was only four of us 🤣. James

Eastbourne tour 2025 Day 1.
Hope everyone who has gone to Eastbourne had a safe trip down. I have received the following from our captain Alan B: "Yateley kicked off their 2025 Eastbourne tour at The Parade as usual. I don't think the Yateley bowlers have ever bowled in such windy conditions. Unfortunately Yateley lost 6 rinks to 1. Our one winning rink was Elaine Taylor, Derrick Lott and Alan Barrett. Despite the weather and the result everyone enjoyed the afternoon."
Look forward to more reports and pictures throughout the week. James
