🌱 FIBRE CHALLENGE

Welcome to Week 2 of our Fibre Challenge!

Last week we spent some time understanding what fibre actually is and then had a little look at how many different fibre-containing foods we eat.

This week, we’re going to make things a bit more practical.

We’re going to look at where fibre fits into our everyday meals and, more importantly, how we can add a little more without making our lives complicated.

So, where do we actually get fibre from?

The easiest way to think about it is plant foods.

Fruit and vegetables are obvious ones. Apples, berries, pears, carrots, broccoli, peas, sweetcorn, there are loads.

Then we have beans, lentils and chickpeas, which are fantastic sources of fibre and can be added to things like soups, stews, curries, salads and pasta dishes.

We’ve also got wholegrains, things like oats, wholegrain bread, brown rice and wholewheat pasta.

And then there are nuts and seeds, such as almonds, chia seeds and flaxseeds.

The great thing is that you don’t need to eat a completely different diet to get more fibre.

Sometimes it’s simply about looking at a meal you’re already eating and asking:

“Could I add one more plant food to this?”

Maybe some berries and seeds to your breakfast.

An extra vegetable with your lunch.

Some chickpeas in your salad.

A handful of nuts as a snack.

Or some lentils added to your usual evening meal.

It’s about adding, rather than taking things away.

And that’s going to be our focus this week.
