Well that didn't last long...training weather is back to normal!

The first day of the RYA Level 1 course was blown out, so instead the students had a tour of the river in patrol boats....actually a very useful familiarisation.

Day 2 was better but far from perfect with some juicy gusts, however, the five students managed to sail in a mixture of Scows, Quests and Picos, and all successfully passed. Congratulations to them all.

Huge thanks to Wendy & Kevin Potts for safety cover and photos, and to the Instructors, Joy, Martin, Fi & Pete

Training report on the half term junior sailing refresher from Peter Giles.

“This time, as one parent correctly observed, I don’t have to start with the sentence 'despite challenging conditions....'! Indeed, for the first time for in years for Junior events, it was warm and mostly sunny with enough breeze to keep us all interested…the downside being the early starts!

Trying to schedule a sailing event around other club events (a fashion show and monthly book club) was made so much easier as all parties communicated well, and all events ran smoothly.

The atmosphere at the club both among the students, parents/grandparents/carers and instructors was amazing, and a huge thank you to everyone for making it so.
It was great to see the youngsters on the water, enjoying themselves and refreshing/improving their skills.

A junior training events would not be complete without a 'food feast' at the end - and we were not disappointed.

So a HUGE thank you to all concerned, including the instructors and SI Rob Selby for a memorable 3 days. Bound to be snow/blizzards in August!

🌊 LIFEJACKET CLINIC PREP 🌊

The Yarmouth RNLI Water Safety team recently spent a very interesting and productive morning at SeaSafe, the UK's leading manufacturer of water safety equipment, learning the finer points of lifejacket inspections.

Lifejackets are a vital way to save lives but only if they are worn and they work.

Sadly, 80% of the lifejackets we inspect have issues of one kind or another.

Our next lifejacket clinic will be on Friday 22nd May at Yarmouth Harbour.

Come and see us for advice or an inspection!

Two hardy students took RYA Level 2 on 7 & 8 May and both passed with flying colours. Coached by Peter Giles & Rob Selby and admirably supported, as ever, by Kevin & Wendy Potts on safety boat and photographic duty. Thank you to all involved.
