Saltley Stallions FC has been formed with young people from the areas of Saltley, Small Heath, Alum Rock , Sparkbrook, Erdington and Yardley. Drugs and crime have plagued our local area, Small Heath, for a number of years. A few years ago we decided to try and be more pro-active in trying to help rid the area of these problems or help reduce them in any which way we could. We realised that sport w
ould prove to be a good distraction for those embroiled in the drug and mob culture and then decided to form the 11-a-side football team and enter it into the Birmingham Shapla League. Due to high demand from young adults we have also entered two teams in the Birmingham Community League and entered a under 16s team in the Birmingham Abilities League. Our aim is to engage the local youth in this sporting activity, we believe this will help keep them off the streets and away from criminal activities, as well as, helping them acquire key behaviors from discipline to team working, consideration of others and hopefully get the college drop outs back to college and into University. The aim of this community based project is to increase participation and promote a healthy & active lifestyle. We want to use football as a tool to increase education attainment, promote social inclusion and challenge social nuisance. We hope to help individuals get back into education, get them off the streets and into a weekly activity, discipline them and we want to give them responsibility in order for them, to then help others. Saltley Stallions FC are always on the look out for new players and if youβre interested in playing or offering assistance in coaching please email Obayedur Rahman Hussain for further details or information. In the year 2011, with the help of channel 4,(UNLTD*), 02 THINK BIG AND the Birmingham FA, the Stallions have been reborn. The Stallions of the past will never be forgotten but there comes a time in life when someone needs to step up for the community and here we are in 2011 'fulfilling the dream'.
