What should kids eat before exercise?

The most important thing is It's important for young athletes to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, which can zap strength, energy, and coordination and lead to heat-related illness. Even mild dehydration can affect athletic performance.

Encourage your child to eat another carb snack such as whole fruit. Bananas, berries, or apples are an excellent choice. Fruit digests easily, so it shouldn’t cause any stomach upset and should keep your child from getting hungry during the classes.

It’s best to avoid processed sugary snacks, as they can lead to an upset stomach. Also, eating processed sugar can cause changes in blood sugar and insulin, which can result in fatigue and poor performance.

The kids and teens will arrive and socialise before class whether it be chatting or maybe going on one of the machines.

Coach Maddie or Coach Sam will have them do a 10-minute warmup to get their heart rate up, muscles engaged and loosened, and will go through a few dynamic stretches.

Every session is different, the theme of the class could be strength building e.g. Squats, skill set work e.g. kipping, Olympic lifting e.g. power cleans, or a nice long workout anything from 15 mins to 40 mins long.

These workouts will aim to involve all the primary muscles in the body and have them develop their overall fitness level. The workouts are sometimes individual but we at Saxon Academy find it very important they work as a team to help develop their social skills and to make it more engaging.

Why CrossFit? CrossFit is a form of high-intensity interval training and is comparable to other high-intensity exercises. CrossFit exercises increase VO2max, strength, and endurance, and improve body composition.
What are the benefits? One of the most obvious upsides to CrossFit is that it boosts overall fitness. The program is designed to be challenging and work your whole body. Even the muscles that, as they say, you might not have known you had. The result is better fitness, strength, and endurance from head to toe.
This is so important for kids and teens this will help with both mental and physical health.

The Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday April 8th is fast approaching and eggcitement is building about how many eggs will be collected. The Easter Bunny has been busy delivering lots of eggs to Saxon ready for this fun family event.

Last year’s competition was brilliantly attended and families enjoyed both the workout element of the morning and the egg hunting part. Families were challenged to participate in a humorous and challenging workout EMOM suitable for all ages, with one of the minutes running to find and collect those eggs.

Lots of children brought baskets ready to collect their goodies and the tension was palpable as families raced around trying to collect the most eggs.

This year’s competition will be based upon the same format. It is suitable for all ages and young children are warmly welcome and encouraged to attend with their parents.

There will, once again, be an egg colouring/ decorating sheet which, once completed, your child will need to bring with them to the competition for judging. Only the Easter Bunny knows what the winner will receive as their prize!
Finished off by a families picnic the morning is set to be another Eggcellent, fun packed event.
