Wymondham AC

Wymondham AC Wymondham Athletic Club (AKA WAC for obvious reasons) - competitive & inclusive all rolled into one! Our race calendar includes a number of team events.

Wymondham Athletic Club (referred to as WAC for obvious reasons) is primarily a road running club, with members participating in road running races all over the UK (and the occasional overseas marathon and half marathon), but we also take part in off-road/trail runs and the local cross country leagues. WAC caters for all standards, from beginner (our only requirement is that you can run 5k - eg a

Parkrun - without stopping) to advanced. We pride ourselves on helping and encouraging our members to achieve their running goals and sharing in their sense of achievement when they do. We meet Monday evenings (except Bank Holidays) at Ketts Park Community Centre, Harts Farm Road, Wymondham NR18 0UR from 6.30pm. Announcements are at 6.45pm and we are out running by 7.00pm. Sessions are geared to match all abilities and are coordinated and supervised by our team of experienced and qualified coaches.

⬆️ In the north, we had Lyn Lyn competing in the Blackpool 10k.

πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ And last, but very definitely not least we had Harriet Carr, Kim Reader, Jules Kennelly and Hannah Woodhouse with incredible performances at the Copenhagen Ironman.

We've had some scorching conditions for racing in recent weeks, but our WACers have continued to put in some brilliant performances, across a range of distances.

We had 28 runners at the popular Worstead 5 miler, with age group PBs for Adam Baker, Louise McDonnell and Lisa Rodgers.

Snetterton saw 24 of our contingent take to the racing track for the 5 and 10k races.

We've also had runners at the Woodford Green AC 10k, Bedford Aerodrome 10k and York 10k.

Fantastic running in tough conditions! Well done everyone getting out there and (safely) getting the miles in in the heat.

Congratulations to our Couch to 5k graduates!

Over the last 10 weeks our brilliant coaches have been supporting our latest group of Couch to 5k runners.

Today the group graduated at parkrun, with the support of runners from across the club. Thanks to the team at Sloughbottom for hosting us, and a huge well done to all of our graduates.

Tonight, we said goodbye and thank you to our outgoing chairman Katie Whitmore. Katie has been a phenomenal chair over the last four years, a period when our club has grown considerably but remained true to its values of being inclusive, fun and supportive. That's because Katie is all of those things herself, and lots more besides! Thank you Katie, we're all so grateful for all of your hard work.

David Powles was elected as our new chairman. Good luck Dave - Katie will be a tough act to follow.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and club member Rodney Freeburn passed away on Saturday.

Rodney has been a member of the club for over 40 years having only taken up running in his 50s . He was a keen sailor previously and decided to take up running to continue keeping fit.

He was an active participant in the East Anglian Cross Country League, regular participant in orienteering events and a keen parkrunner.

We were delighted to help Rodney celebrate his 500th parkrun back in August 2023 where he became only the 10th runner in the world aged 85 or over to complete 500 parkruns.

Rodney always ran with a smile on his face and with such enthusiasm. He was kind to the core and a true gentleman and we will miss him greatly.

Our thoughts are with his wife Margretta and their family and friends.
