Premiered at in 2025, The Wylam Song Cycle is a musical celebration of our village and its remarkable contribution to the origins of the railway.
In 2025, communities across the UK are marking 200 years since Wylam’s own George Stephenson changed the course of history. His pioneering engine, Locomotion No. 1, pulled the first passenger train along the Stockton to Darlington Railway — an event widely regarded as the birth of the modern railway.
Wylam has a proud heritage as the home of influential railway engineers such as Timothy Hackworth and George Hedley, and lays claim to having the world’s oldest station still in continuous use.
