🏏U13’s MATCH REPORT🏏
With a few regulars out today, we asked 3 of the older u11’s to help out and they stepped up to the job superbly. We decided on a pairs cricket match to ensure everyone has an opportunity to bat and bowl. This meant there was plenty of cricket to watch. Newcastle won the toss and elected to bowl. First pair of James and Joe did some lovely shots with a huge four on the last ball from James. Adam and Max came next with quite a few fours hit in their 4 overs. Bertie and Harry faced some fast bowling which proved tricky at times but they got their defensive shots working well. Teddy and Rory were up next and looked very comfortable playing up an age group, with a whacking six from Rory onto the leg side. Jesse and Adam finished our innings with some tidy shots along the ground.
Our opening over had Adam bowling and Rory taking a great catch for our first wicket. Another catch was taken later in the innings by Adam. The field work was good with lots of fours stopped and the ball travelling into the wicket fast.
Newcastle won with a big total of 158 to Wylam’s 80. The game was played in good spirits with some fantastic cricket being played.
Back to training tomorrow and we will work on some fielding, and consistency with the bat and ball. As always, thanks to RED Engineering for sponsoring Wylam’s junior teams! 👍

🏏MATCH REPORT🏏
Today’s under 11s travelled to Riding Mill and while the Sun was out at the start of the match, as the game wore on it became overcast and colder (serves me right for forgetting my jacket!)
Captain Matty lost the toss and we were put into bowl. Matty and Artie were our opening bowlers and got stuck straight into with great line and lengths which meant we gave very little away which became the theme of the day. Gerard and Max B were next with Max taking a brace. Fantastic energy and attention in the field meant whomever was bowling they were backed up by their team in the field and we restricted Riding Mill for runs. Highlights included a direct hit from Max, a couple of caught chances but generally just a cracking fielding display. We stayed with the same pairs across the batting innings and despite loosing early wickets we steadied the ship. Lively running between the wickets and lots of awareness saw us punishing overthrows particularly Kit & Finn. Nick probably has his best innings with the bat so far this season and just about everyone contributing some lovely 4’s throughout the order and scurrying singles and even the odd 2! Our innings was concluded with Alfie G keeping it tight at the end with a lovely sweep shot for 4. Today was a pleasure to watch and the team are progressing brilliantly and it does look like they’re listening at training! Thanks for hosting us Riding Mill and your fabulous breakfast buns 😋 and thanks to RED Engineering for sponsoring the junior teams at Wylam Cricket Club.

🏏 Under 11’s match report - Sunday 17th 🏏

Excellent performance from our under 11s today - the result didn’t go our way but the enthusiasm they displayed and the progress they’ve made was brilliant to see.
Thanks to our Under 9s who’ve stepped in up to new challenges today - you’ve done amazingly!
Rory was our captain this week and he led the way opening the batting confidently with Arty get us off to a good start with Arty hitting an excellent drive for 4. Finley and Joel followed, both playing their first U11s game and were able to defend and score against some very good bowling. Gerard and Kit were in next with some good calling to get their runs. Matty and James then came to the crease and dealt well with yet more accurate bowling. Alfie and Rory finished off the innings scoring 2 each in the final few overs. Then it was our turn to field. I was blown away by the level of encouragement they had for each other in the field - Rory guided his team well and modelled backing up perfectly. Gerard led the wicket taking with 2 and Alfie picked up his first U11 wicket of the season. In another first for the day Matty took the keeper gloves and was exceptional behind the stumps including an amazing destruction of the wickets fielded from square on. James then turned his hand to keeping for the last four overs and was brilliant as well.
An all round excellent match - hats off to our Under 9s for stepping up a level and showing just how good they are. ‘Great all round cricket!’ was the phrase of the day today. Well done to Benwell and Wallbottle for the win. Well done to Wylam for an excellent all round effort.
