PENTRE BOWLED OVER BY SUPPORT FROM BELLWAY
Members at Pentre Broughton Bowling Club can play their favourite sport whatever the weather thanks to a recent donation from housebuilder Bellway.
With two superb residential developments taking shape in Wrexham, Bellway has been supporting good causes in the local community and was only too happy to help Pentre Broughton with £300 towards the cost of a purpose-built weather shelter.
Located just a short stroll from Bellway’s Mountain View development, Pentre Broughton Bowling Club on Quarry Road attracts members age 10 to 70 years of age from across the Brynteg, Southsea, Llay and Pentre Broughton areas and competes in the Wrexham Saturday League, Wrexham Pairs League and Oswestry League.
The club is a hive of activity with practice spread across the week, depending on when individuals can make it due to work and family commitments, and competitions taking place on Saturday afternoons, Monday evenings and Tuesday evenings.
With a purpose- built bowling pavilion, well maintained bowling green, member kitchen, toilets and also a meeting and function room, the club is always busy but lacked a shelter for those playing outside when the weather was too hot or wet.
The new weather shelter is positioned beside the bowling green and offers protection from showers, and also shade from the sun, both for the club’s own players and matchday visitors, with individuals able to watch undercover while waiting their turn.
Club chairman, Tony Jones, commented: “We are really grateful to Bellway for the donation which has helped us install the much needed weather shelter next to the bowling green. With the UK’s inclement and unpredictable weather it means that our members can wait in comfort whether it is raining, or even when it’s too hot, and we are making good use of it already.”
Sales director at Bellway North West, Jenny Bell, added: “Pentre Broughton is at the heart of the community in Wrexham. With developments either side of the club, we are only too happy to help and glad that the donation has gone towards something that will be used by many throughout the year.”
