22nd OCTOBER 1872

Llangollen Football & Athletic Club were formed on Tuesday 22 October 1872, at the National Schoolroom by members of Llangollen Cricket Club.
Their first match was played on The Recreation Ground on Saturday 26 October 1872.

The club reformed again on Monday 10 September 1877. The club has the honour of playing in the inaugural Welsh Cup competition.

On 22 October 1880 the club changed their name to Berwyn Rangers, exactly 8 years after the original club was formed.

TUESDAY 18th AUGUST 1899

Wrexham Victoria formed in the Bowling Green Pub, taking their name from an older club with the same name. Wrexham Victoria's first game was a 5–4 defeat against Newton Rangers, on Saturday 2 September 1899, in the Chester and District League, whilst their first victory was a 3–2 win over Tarporley on 16 September 1899.

Wrexham Victoria won the Football Association of Wales Trophy four times in 1890/91,1900/01,[7] 1901/02 and 1903/04. They joined The Combination for the 1906/07 season, however they finished bottom of the league.

They were to be found playing in Division One of the Wrexham and District League for 1907/08.

The Wrexham Victoria name did make a return in the 1920s when they were beaten 5-0 by Oswestry in the 1924/25 Welsh Amateur Cup.

AUGUST 1906

Carnarvon United Football Club was formed. The club were formed following a merger by Caernarvon Celts and Caernarvon RWF (Royal Welsh Fusiliers).

In 1909 the club won both the Welsh Amateur Cup and North Wales Amateur Cup. The club also played in the Welsh Cup.

In 1919, after World War I, the demobilised United players formed a new club (Caernarvon Athletic), a precursor of the current Welsh Premier club Caernarfon Town.

4th JUNE 1887

Wrexham Olympic 4-1 Bangor, played at Everton in front of a crowd of 3,500-4,000. This was the final tie of the Wrexham Argus Medal Competition, as part of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee celebrations.

JUNE 1901

A senior club for Chester was announced. This was following a 2-3 year gap where the city didn't have a senior team. The new team secured a ground on Whipcord Lane, and planned on playing in The Combination.

JUNE 1905

Wrexham's resignation from The Combination was accepted. Wrexham had finished the 1904-05 season as Champions of The Combination however left to join the Birmingham & District League.

THIS WEEK IN 1877

Over 2,000 people attended Druids Football Clubs end of season athletic event at Plasmadoc Park. Druids were said to have had another successful season, although not as successful as the previous two in which they remained unbeaten.

Druids entered the FA Cup this season, becoming the first Welsh club to enter the competition, however they scratched to Shropshire Wanderers.

5th MAY 1888

Chirk defeated Newtown 5-0 in the Welsh Cup Final. The final was played at Owens Field, Chester Road Wrexham. Owens Field was the third different Welsh Cup Final location in Wrexham after Acton Park and The Racecourse.

The goal scorers for Chirk were W. Owen x2, G. Owen, Davies and G. Griffths.

THIS WEEK IN 1866

The Wrexham Cricket and Football Club held their annual dinner at The Turf. The dinner was a celebration of the start of the Cricket season and end of the Football season. It was remarked it had been a very nice season for football.
