Adventure day — taking everything we’ve been working on out into the open water. Clear blue, coral below, fish darting past, turtles gliding through. Staying focused on technique when the ocean is putting on a show like that? Easier said than done.

Your arm recovery can make or break your shoulders. Your timing can make or break your speed. Your breathing position can make or break everything else.

Day 4 at Heron Island we fixed all three. And felt our more energy and power. water swimming

You can’t think your way into a new stroke. You have to feel it.

Day 3 at Heron Island was all technique — flutter, rotation, streamline. Video analysis so the brain could finally see what the body was doing. Standing rehearsal to start making it real.

And then watching your fellow swimmers — and finding our own version of what they’ve got.

Learning through practice, observation and feeling.

Body position. Forward energy. Open water sighting.

Then we went snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and found turtles, sharks, rays, and more fish than we could count.

Day 2 of the SwimMastery Heron Island Camp. Not too shabby at all. 🐢

Day 1 of Heron Island camp and what a beginning. We got to know each other over swimming stories and goals, then took to the water. We swam over reef in turquoise clarity with turtles, eagle rays, and fish for company, as the sun set and the full moon climbed above the ocean. Not@a@bad start to our week together 🥰

Mastery Monday - Why do I sink when I try to breathe?

Every swimmer asks this. And the answer isn’t what you think.

Sinking when you breathe is almost never about your lungs or your fitness — it’s about what your head and hips are doing the moment you rotate to breathe. When your head lifts instead of rotates, your hips drop and your legs drag you under.

The fix? Keep one goggle in the water by looking directly next to you. Let the bow wave do the work.

This is the kind of detail we work on inside SwimMastery — because once you feel the difference, you can’t unfeel it.

🏊‍♀️ What if your swim session felt like a game you couldn’t stop playing?

Enter: the Tempo Trainer and stroke counting — two of the most underrated tools in a swimmer’s kit.

Here’s the thing. Most adult swimmers grind up and down the pool with no idea whether they’re actually improving. They feel tired, so they assume they’re working hard. But tired doesn’t always mean faster.

Metrics change everything.

When you set your Tempo Trainer to a specific beat and start counting your strokes per length, something clicks. Suddenly you’re problem-solving in real time:

✅ Can I hold the same stroke count at a faster tempo?

✅ Can I reduce my strokes AND keep my speed?

✅ What happens to my efficiency when I’m fatigued?

Sessions become genuinely engaging — almost addictive. You’re chasing numbers, experimenting, celebrating small wins. It stops being exercise and starts being practice.

🎯 Ready to start your metrics journey?

The SwimMastery Swim Sets give you structured, progressive sets built around tempo and stroke count — so every session has purpose, feedback, and fun.

🏊 MASTERY MONDAY

This is what a swimmer from Canada had to say about her copy of The Swim Mastery Way.

“What a difference already.”

Two weeks ago, a reader picked up The SwimMastery Way — and here’s what they told us:
“I really like how the book breaks down the freestyle stroke into several parts, with specific cues designed to create muscle memory and proprioception in the water.
I’ve now discovered the truly AMAZING feeling of having my head float as I move through the water — when I see other ‘strong swimmers’ lifting their heads up…

I highly recommend this book for anyone learning freestyle and wanting to develop good habits.”
Just two weeks. Dryland breathing exercises. Better exhale → inhale → head turn coordination. Real results.

This is what technique-first swimming looks like. 📖✨

From pain to possibility in one week.
Cyndi came to our Mexico Swim Camp in April not knowing what to expect. What she discovered changed everything — not just her stroke, but her body.
Her musculoskeletal therapist noticed the difference. Her scapula mobility improved. And the dream of completing a long channel swim without pain? Back on the table.
This is what happens when the right cues click at the right time.
🏊‍♀️ Our next swim camp is coming. Drop a 🙋 in the comments if you want to be first to know.
