PROUD DAD MOMENT!

Not your typical “Coaching school” post. However I feel it important to share.

As a parent, I’ve realised how important environment really is for kids.

My son Arlo being a prime example. Struggled with his grassroots team last season. Lacked confidence. Didn’t engage in the sessions. His attitude wasn’t great. Messed about with his mates constantly.

Absolutely loves football, but for the above reasons he didn’t find joy in training or playing.

Like a lot of children, he can sometimes struggle with anxiety around new places, new people and stepping outside his comfort zone. I know there’ll be loads of parents reading this who understand exactly what that feels like.

That was a big part of the reason I set up PSOE in the first place.

Over time, with the right environment, patient coaches and good team mates around him, I’ve watched his confidence grow more and more. He’s now found a group of lads he loves being around and looks forward to seeing and training/ playing with every week.

For me, that’s what youth football should be about.
Yes, development matters. Yes, improving technically matters. But confidence, friendships, feeling comfortable and enjoying the process matter just as much.

Im not saying his attitudes now perfect or he’s become the best in his team but the point I’m trying to make is sometimes all a child needs is the right people around them and a place where they feel they belong.

Well done son! Keep working hard 💪

As we continue to raise standards across all age groups, we are now looking to strengthen the quality of our squads ahead of the new season.

At PSOE, players receive:

✅ 2 x 1 hour 30 minute training sessions per week
✅ Saturday MATCHDAYS
✅ Professional coaching environment
✅ Weekly ILPs (Individual Learning Plans)
✅ Exposure to professional football environments

Over the last 12 months alone, our players have visited and experienced sessions/games against professional clubs including:

• Manchester United• Sheffield Wednesday• Sheffield United• Notts County• Derby County• Rotherham United• Doncaster Rovers• Barnsley

…to name just a few.

We’ve also had a number of success stories with players being picked up by professional clubs — something we are incredibly proud of.

These trials are for players looking to represent Palmer School of Excellence in the Junior Premier League (JPL) on Saturdays during the 2026/27 season.

⚠️ Current PSOE players DO NOT need to attend trials.

Once selected, players will be invited to train with their relevant squad for a two-week assessment period. Final squads will then be confirmed ahead of July 1st.

Please note:
• U7s & U8s will continue to compete in the North Derbyshire Youth League on Saturdays in a 5-a-side format.
• Our girls teams will also compete in 5-a-side formats at younger age groups.

❓ FAQ

Can my child still play for PSOE if they already play elsewhere on Sundays?

✅ Yes, absolutely. Many players combine Saturday and Sunday football. However, if training schedules clash, we do ask players to prioritise PSOE sessions.

How often do teams train?

⚽ All teams train twice per week, with each session lasting 1 hour 30 minutes.

Are your coaches volunteers or qualified coaches?

🎓 All PSOE coaches are fully qualified and deliver high-level sessions following the carefully curated PSOE coaching syllabus and development model.

Where are sessions based?

📍 All training sessions and home fixtures take place at Worksop Town FC on a state-of-the-art 4G all-weather surface.

Will players experience academy-level environments?

🏟️ Yes. Throughout the season, we aim to provide players with opportunities to visit professional training grounds, play against academy opposition, and test themselves in elite environments designed to aid long-term development.

We’re excited to announce our Festival of Football Tournament Weekends coming this May at Worksop Town FC 🏟️

A brilliant opportunity for teams to enjoy plenty of game time in a fun, competitive, festival-style environment, with age groups from U7s through to U12s.
