What a weekend for our Workington St Joseph’s Women’s Walking Football Team! ❤️⚽
Friday – the best day of the week – saw a fantastic turnout for training, with plenty of smiles, hard work, and football played in glorious sunshine. ☀️
Saturday - back to the North East to play the first round of the league games in Newcastle, unfortunately we were a few players down but we still pulled on our boots, held our heads high and gave it our best shot! That’s what team work is all about… Love our little trips to the North East!
Then today, we had the challenge of splitting our squad across two different leagues, with teams travelling to both Carlisle and Bolton.
Despite being stretched across two venues, our players showcased exactly what our club is all about – commitment, determination, and incredible strength in depth. To field two competitive teams on the same day and produce the performances we did is a fantastic achievement.
In Carlisle, our players faced men’s and heavily mixed teams, earning draws and suffering just one defeat. The effort, resilience, and quality shown against such strong opposition was outstanding, and every player should be proud of their contribution.
Meanwhile, down in Bolton, our Over-35s ladies were exceptional. The football on display was excellent, with thoughtful passing, fantastic communication, and relentless determination throughout the day. Defensively, the team was superb, working tirelessly for one another and showing real togetherness from the first whistle to the last.
While the results may not have gone entirely our way, today proved something incredibly important – we can compete. We learned more from the defeats than we did from the victories and showed that we’re more than capable of matching teams from leagues outside our county. The margins were small, the games were closely contested, and we demonstrated that we belong at this level. 👊🏻
Most importantly, every single player gave absolutely everything. The commitment, confidence, and team spirit on display were a credit to the club.
We also received lots of praise and compliments from the opposition in Bolton on the sidelines today 🤩❤️ It was amazing to hear how much they could see the massive improvement in our team. Feedback like that means so much and is a real testament to the hard work, dedication, and progress every player has made. 👏👊🏻🙌🏻
A huge well done to everyone who represented Workington St Joseph’s today. The future is bright, and we’re only getting stronger. ❤️❤️
