Coaches player of the match:

Both coaches identified Oliver for his performance in this game. Reading the game well from defence, quick to close down and s***f out any dangerous attacks giving their attackers a hard game. Strong in the tackle and on the ball, Oliver played out from the back calmly with some real purpose, switching play into attack on numerous occasions.

Went to Ethan. A really strong performance in the middle of midfield. Tenacious at closing down, strong in the tackle and on the ball with some real quality with his end product as we are so used to seeing.

Match Report 🔴⚽️

Saturday 12th September 2026
V WJFC Greys U11

Excellent game this one...

We changed the formation to try and surprise the opposition, win the midfield battle and counter through wide attacks, complemented by two attacking players defending from the front with a high press.

The boys reacted brilliantly. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, they were quick to press, win the ball back and attack with real meaning. Solid as ever at the back, with some great defending and top-class goalkeeping.

As is often the case, the second half was a different game with the wind behind us. I think we struggled to cope with the pace on the ball, losing control and wasting attacking opportunities far too often, which allowed the opposition to get a real foothold into the game and with a Team of the calibre we were playing that creates a big problem. Ultimately, not clearing our lines and not reacting quickly enough to loose balls resulted in some preventable goals being conceded.

The game was a brilliant watch, though. I’m super proud of how the lads played. High energy, always trying to play football, and never giving up. End-to-end action, chances and goals saw the lead change hands a few times, making for a fantastic game of football.

Another great experience and plenty of lessons learned. We go on to the next one as better players than we were at the start of the day. 💪🏽

A bit behind on this one..

Last weekend we took part in the popular Maryport Athletic pre-season tournament.

With a few missing in the squad for various reasons we went with a bare 7 plus a very talented guest from our under 9s team giving us one sub.

The format was great. An 8 team group which gave us 7 x 10 minute group games plus the chance to move into a semi-final and final should we finish in the top 4, so plenty of football and fitness on offer.

We started against an unknown team who were on tour from over the border. A well drilled team with some great players in. It’s always nice to play new teams.

After that we played some more familiar foes.

We managed to navigate the group stage finishing top despite not really firing on all cylinders or playing our best football. Only one defeat, to the eventual winners on the day.

We played well in the semifinal to set up a second meeting between us and our old foe Whitehaven AFC. We took an early lead but much like the rest of the day we weren’t on it which opened the door to let a dangerous team back in. With their tails up they scored two quick goals which we had no response for.

As it was a preseason tournament it highlighted areas we needed to work on and hopefully showed the lads that we all have to be on the same page.

Match Report:

First game of the season for the lads playing up again in the 11s top band. A tough string of fixtures ahead began today against Keswick U11s.

It was good to be back at it and the lads looked hungry for it too.. The ask from me was to implement what we have been working on in training. Tempo, effort, teamwork and confidence to play. Pass and move.
The lads did this in spades today. Dominating the play and creating lots of chances. As per you need everything to click and today we just couldn’t convert the chances we created.

Unfortunately not taking our chances always left the door ajar for Keswick who popped up with a goal of their own with 6/7 mins left to play. After that we piled pressure on again trying to get back in-front but for some heroic defending and goalkeeping keeping us frustrated.

We will keep working and keep improving.
