The Zebras start 2026 in style with a 61 point victory over Penrith 2nd’s

“Champagne Rugby” at the Ellis was the talk in the clubhouse, due to some great team tries.

Honourable mention to Owen Ackerley with a try and assist on his last game for the club. We wish him all the best as he takes on a new chapter with the Doncaster Knights Academy 💪🏼

Workington Zebras vs Hawcoat Park

The Zebras travelled to Hawcoat Park with a 14 man squad yesterday and were able to play the new game on rule.

With a lot of new young players in the team and facing the wind in the first half we found ourselves 25-0 down to a well drilled Hawcoat Team.

In the second half the back line led by James Beck clicked into gear and the tries started to come.

Diego Sutcliffe with his first try assisted by an Andrew McCricked kick into the corner gave us our first points. This was followed by Josh Partridge catching the ball from the kick off and taking on the full team to score under the sticks. A well worked backs move seen Gareth Niemand break through and score. The final try was scored by Daniel Hargreaves who went round the outside to score under the sticks for his first of the year!

The Zebras now sit 7th in the table after claiming a bonus point for the 4 tries scored. Thanks to Hawcoat Park for the game, good luck for the rest of the year!

Great Game yesterday against Aspatria Eagles with the zebras picking up the win. Yesterday displayed how two clubs can come together to keep local rugby union alive 💪🏼

The zebras had five debutants yesterday with three of them picking up debut try’s:

Gareth Niemand 🏉
Jenson Morris 🏉
Josh Partridge 🏉
Daniel Hargreaves
Diego Sutcliffe

We also had a debut in the team management role from zebras all time top points scorer Kevin Harper. Shoutout to the coach Lee harden who pulled a shirt on for a 10 minute cameo at the end too 💪🏼

The other two trys came from zebras new Captain Scott Faulkner and one of the Vice Captains Chris Stringer. John McCricked was accurate off the tee converting 4/5.

Next week sees us at home to Whitehaven, which is set to be an exciting game 🦓

As long as the frost doesn’t stop us for a third time the Zebras will play Keswick for the first time this season!

Both in similar positions in the league this should be a good clash for everyone watching.

Great day all round for the Workington Zebras RFC club!

Starting off with a last minute winner for the Workington Zebra Finches Women's RUFC from non other than their coach Posh Chris!

Then into the club for some food, raffles and bongos bingo all in aid of charity.

In total the club raised £640 which will be split between Andys Man Club Workington and Mind. Thanks for everyone that made the day possible, from the bar and kitchen staff to the players and fans!
