Spring has most definitely landed and the sunshine has warmed the crags and peaks for our members to embark on some big adventures.

March saw the Hike the Hills meet at Llanthony priory for an epic 28km round trip through the Black Mountains. Several members tackled the rolling hills passing by a number of peaks including Lord Herefords K**b and Hay Bluff before ending at a pub built into the ruins of an old priory!

April's meet took place in North Wales and the turn out was fantastic. Given the warm and dry conditions the choices for adventures were endless. Staying in a hut in Nant Peris, the post adventure blues were kept at bay with a communal meal and plenty of refreshments.

During the meet, a couple of members tackled the famous Snowdon Horseshoe, starting on Crib Goch and finishing Y Lliwedd, and a quick dip in Llyn Llydaw!

Others spent their time in Dinorwig quarry on the fantastic slate sports climbs taking advantage of the rare dry conditions.

Multipitching was on the itinerary too with Crackstone Rib, Dinas MOT, Craig yr Ysfa, Idwal Slabs and Slick in the Moelwyns.

Scrambling featured with a couple of ascents up the alpine-like grade 3 Cneifion Arรชte and Crib Goch.

Outside of the offical meets, many members have organised trips away to nearby crags and further afield to Scotland and Eyri, both midweek and and weekends, making the most of a sunny weather. With gray clouds on the forecast, no doubt the guidebooks and maps will be out on the table making plans for the next trip away.

A busy few weeks for the Worcester Mountaineering Club, with Scottish winter days taking the lime light.

Members have been making the journey to the far north to make the most of the winter conditions. Consolidating skills, learning some new ones, ice climbing and winter treks have all been on the itinerary and undoubtedly a dram or two!

February also saw this months official joint meet with the West Brom MC to the Cairngorms for a week in the snow.
But it has not been all about Scotland. Members have flown further afeild to Cogne, Italy.
The Lake District saw a winter ascent of Helvellyn with an epic cloud inversion.
Scrambling in Eryri with Glyder Fach's Bristly Ridge.
And trying out a few of the other local indoor walls in Birmingham.

Many more adventures to come ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿž

Shame ๐Ÿ˜ณ

A tycoon has been slammed for using a tangled scheme to shut down his winter sports ยญbusiness and dodge paying out money to staff.

Jamie Smith built up and ran the Snow Factor centre in Braehead, Glasgow, and an ice climbing wall in Kinlochleven, Argyll, both of which eventually closed leaving a trail of debt. More than 100 jobs were lost in the wake of the failures. Staff worked for weeks for no pay and many are fighting for redundancy payments two years later.

Meanwhile, Smith โ€“ free of debt from the failed ventures โ€“ is now running a yachting business in Greece ๐Ÿค”

2025 has barely begun and already members of the WMC have wasted no time in getting started on their adventures:

Starting with the clubs official New Years Day walk - this year taking place in the frosty Black Mountains. A perfect place to burn off the mince pies!

Just over the border into Wales, making the most of the winter sun, hiking around the lesser explored Radnor forest.

The recent snowy snap has seen winter conditions in North Wales, with members tackling Crib Goch at its best.

At little further north, and a little less snowy, with scrambling a frozen and icy Pinnacle Ridge in the Lake District.

Keeping things local with both boots and wheels over the Malvern hills.

Exploring the unusual Nine Standards Rigg in the Pennines

And finally, avoiding the cold British winter altogether with warm winter hikes in Spain!
