Most violence isn’t unavoidable.

It’s not lurking around every corner waiting to happen.

The truth is that the vast majority of social violence starts with poor decisions, wounded egos, alcohol, insults, challenges, and people refusing to walk away.

I’ve spent over 30 years studying violence, and one lesson stands above all the others:

The best way to win a fight is not to have one.

This weekend, enjoy yourself.

Have a drink.

Have a laugh.

Spend time with the people you care about.

But don’t let pride convince you that you have something to prove.

No trophy is handed out for winning an argument with a stranger.

No medal is given for standing your ground when you could have walked away.

The real victory is getting home safely to the people who matter most.

For me, that’s Claire and my children.

Stay safe this weekend….. and remember, walking away isn’t weakness.

It’s wisdom.

How exactly are you planning to help anyone else when things go wrong?

Self-defence isn’t just about fighting.

It’s about fitness.

It’s about awareness.

It’s about discipline.

It’s about being physically and mentally capable when your family needs you most.

Because in an emergency, nobody cares how many videos you’ve watched, what you’d “like to do”, or who you’d “become” under pressure.

You’re left with the person you’ve built.

Or neglected.

Your family doesn’t need a tough guy.

They need a capable one.
