A sentence every coach has said…

And a sentence some people completely ignore. 😂

Some people just want to hit things as hard as they can.

The problem is, if you can’t control your power,
you don’t really control your technique. 👊

Learning to go hard is easy.

Learning to go light when you’re asked to?
That’s a skill.

Sometimes being a coach means having the patience of a saint. 😇

And for the record, I would never actually threaten a client with brain damage…

But if I let my intrusive thoughts win for 5 minutes, there’d be a few interesting conversations taking place. 😂

Control first.
Power second. 📈

David has been training with me for over 2 years now. 🥊

When he started, he had no martial arts experience at all.

Fast forward to today and the difference is huge.

Fitter.
Stronger.
More technical.
More confident. 👊

There wasn’t a secret.

Just consistency.
Showing up every week.
Putting the work in. 📈

It’s great to see him starting to reap the rewards of all that hard work. 🔥

Motivation comes and goes.

Commitment is different.

You don’t need to feel motivated
to make time for the people you care about.
You don’t need motivation
to show up to work.

You do those things because you’re committed to them. 👊

Training should be the same. 🥊

You won’t feel motivated every session.
Nobody does.

But if you want to improve,
you have to stay committed anyway. 🔥

Same kick…
but the mechanics change depending on the target.

Your angle.
Your hip rotation.
Your balance.

Small adjustments make a big difference. 🥊

Making those adjustments is the difference between somebody with good technique…
and somebody that can actually fight. 👊

One person is emotional.
The other is prepared.

The lad in the blue top is shouting, pushing and getting aggressive.

The lad in black is calm.
Measuring distance.
Standing in a fight stance. 🥊

You can tell who’s ready for something to happen…
and who isn’t.

Again, I’m not saying this is the right thing to do.
I’m reviewing it from an educational point of view.

But if the lad in blue had some level of training,
he might’ve recognised the signs that the other person was ready to fight.

Awareness matters. 👊

I hate running. 😂

Woke up this morning not wanting to train at all.

So I made myself do it anyway. 🏃‍♂️

That’s discipline.

Mike Tyson said:
“Discipline is doing what you hate to do, but doing it like you love it.”

And that’s what we should all be trying our best to do.

Not just when we feel motivated.
Not just when it’s convenient.

Every day.
