💙 Drowning Prevention Week 💙

A simple skill that can make a big difference in the water is learning to move safely along the poolside wall.

So our littlest swimmers practiced being ‘Spider-Man’ 🕷️

If a swimmer feels unsure or needs to get to safety, they can:
✅ Hold onto the wall
✅ Move along
✅ Get to safety

This builds confidence and gives swimmers a safe way to stay in control without needing to swim 🏊🏻‍♀️💦

One of the parts of the water safety code is float 🛟

‘FLOAT - fall in or become tired - stay calm, float on your back and call for help.
Throw something that floats to somebody that has fallen in.’

So this week our students practiced their star floats, whilst wearing their pyjamas, and learning why it is so important.

Our preschool swimmers have been building their water safety knowledge during their lesson this week 🏊‍♀️

They learnt all about the different flags you might see at the beach, what each one means, and why it’s so important to recognise them 🚩

They then put their knowledge into practice with a fun game, helping them remember each flag in an enjoyable way 😊

Learning how to float is an essential skill – if you find yourself in the water unexpectedly it could save your life.

If you’re struggling in water.
👉Tilt your head back with ears submerged
👉Relax, breathe normally and move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
👉It’s ok if your legs sink, we all float differently
👉Once you’re over the initial shock, call for help or swim to safety
