Golfers spend plenty of time reading putts, but very few ever think about the hole itself.

A cleanly trimmed cup isn’t just about presentation. Ragged edges, torn turf and poorly maintained holes can all affect how a putt behaves as it reaches the target. It’s one of those little jobs that takes only a few moments but helps ensure every putt gets a fair chance.

Will it stop you three-putting? Probably not.

Will it give your ball the best possible opportunity to disappear into the bottom of the cup? Absolutely.

We can prepare the hole perfectly… what happens before the ball gets there is entirely up to you. 🤣⛳️🤣

You know that awkward moment when someone asks what you do for a living?

“I grow grass.”

The conversation usually goes downhill from there.

Then I have to explain that I also operate a fleet of autonomous machines through the night, move suspicious amounts of sand, maintain a hidden underground water network, and spend every morning making sure 18 crime scenes look immaculate by 7am.

In reality, it’s just golf course maintenance.

No secret cartel. No witness protection. Just a team of greenkeepers trying to produce the best playing surfaces we can while everyone else is still asleep.

Although, when you put it like that… it does sound a little illegal. 🌱🚜⛳

Some golfers will forgive a plugged lie… but never a dry ball washer 😂

Constructive criticism? Absolutely fair.
But every golf course has that one tiny job that somehow keeps slipping to the bottom of the list.

When you’re juggling greens, bunkers, irrigation, machinery and presentation across 100+ acres… sometimes the ball washers lose the battle 😅

Trust me, it’s on the list somewhere. Just maybe not above keeping the greens alive.

This certainly isn’t for everyone but it works for us. We are firm believers in using air to clean mowers instead of water. This way we avoid corrosion and forcing of water in to bearings and seals

Many golfers have come off our 16th hole feeling slightly dejected after a good scorecard has been totally destroyed by this cavernous bunker by the green.

Despite its brutality it does make for a very satisfying clean up operation and one that is quite simple due to its astroturf construction.

The question is are you getting out of it first time or are you ripping the scorecard up? Let us know below 😂👇😂

I don’t think enough people are talking about just how quickly golf course maintenance is changing.

A few years ago, the idea of autonomous mowers maintaining areas of a golf course felt like something from the future. Today, they’re part of my everyday routine. Not replacing greenkeepers, but helping us work smarter and giving us time to focus on the jobs that often get pushed down the priority list.

What excites me most isn’t where we are now, it’s where we’re heading. Better data, smarter irrigation, automation, sensors, GPS mapping, AI… technology is starting to give us tools that previous generations of greenkeepers could only dream about.

I’ve been in greenkeeping for 20 years and I genuinely believe we’re witnessing one of the biggest shifts our industry has ever seen.

The future isn’t coming. It’s already here.

And if we’ve made these leaps in such a short space of time, imagine what the next five years look like.

What piece of technology has had the biggest impact on your job?

And what do you think will be the next biggest advancement in our industry? 💭👇💭

There’s no better feeling than formation flying on the fairway mowers. The first mower drops a laser straight down the middle then you both work away from there dropping stripes as you go.

The coolest part about this run is sharing it with my nephew. He’s the next generation of our family business and it’s safe to say the future is in good hands! 🤘⛳️🤘
