Woodhall Wheelers

Woodhall Wheelers Woodhall Wheelers is a social cycling group based in the Lincolnshire village of Woodhall Spa, where the rule is we go at the slowest riders pace.

Welcome to the Woodhall Wheelers social cycling club page. The club was started by a small group of friends in early 2014. The founding members, all keen cyclists, decided to share their passion with the wider community. Rides are not restricted to the immediate environs of Woodhall Spa and have already included trips to view the Tours of France and Britain and a resort to resort ride. Th

e club and website are continuing to develop with exciting plans for 2022

The club is based in the delightful village of Woodhall Spa, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, giving us a choice of many different types of rides. A six mile ride to Horncastle takes us to the edge of the Wolds where many 15% climbs can be encountered; there are also great choices of flat routes plus several cycle tracks around the area. We welcome all riders be it novice or experienced but you will need to be reasonably fit and capable of riding 15 miles which would enable you to manage a 20 or 25 mile ride. Rides longer than 25 miles include one or more steepish hills so you will need to be pretty fit for those, we don’t as a rule stop for a break on rides less that 50 miles. If you have any doubts about your fitness please consult your doctor before taking part. Riders must be 18 years of age minimum, however if you are under 18 your parent/guardian must also participate in the ride. If you want to Join Woodhall Wheelers please click SIGN UP at the top of our page, which will direct you to the Woodhall Wheelers main website. Your details will be added to the Woodhall Wheelers account on the British Cycling website. There is a membership fee of £15. We also strongly recommend you have adequate personal injury and third party liability insurance. British Cycling, CTC, Endsleigh Insurance are suggested contacts. Woodhall Wheelers accept no responsibility whatsoever for loss or personal damage or injury at any events or during any club activity.

Woodhall Wheelers continue to support LNAA with annual fundraising events. This year funds were raised on a memorial ride in memory of the club's founder Brian Garrick. Future planned events include hosted coffee stops where cyclists make a charity donation. The club holds regular rides and welcomes guests and new members - it is a social not road racing club! Located on an operational RAF airfield the Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight operates the only airworthy Lancaster in Britain, six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, a Dakota and two Chipmunks. The Memorial Flight is a living tribute to all RAF air and ground crews who gave their lives in the Second World War.

The visitor centre provides public access to the home of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. They provide this experience in partnership with the Royal Air Force.

The visitor centre and the RAF hangar are located within the boundaries of RAF Coningsby.

Access to the hangar is by guided tour only and admission charges apply. The start time of the ride is set to enable participants who wish to attend the Centre's first tour starting at 10:30.

From the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Visitor Centre we will head to Wooudhall Spa pas the former RAF Woodhall Spa and the Petwood Hotel that acted as the Station's Officers' Mess. From there we will loop around to the east over rolling terrain before a sweeping descent to our planned stop at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre on the former RAF East Kirkby. We will return via a flat route around the south of RAF Coningsby.
This route links some of Lincolnshire's Aviation heritage

After the initial section between Coningsby and Woodhall Spa the majority of the route is on quiet country roads.

We are planning an extended stop at The NAAFI cafe at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre in East Kirkby. Riders wishing to visit the centre and view the exhibits will be able to purchase admission tickets (these are not required for the café)
