We travelled to Derbyshire with a squad of 13, including 11 that were aged 18 or under. We faced experienced higher league opposition in what was our history making first ever appearance in the .

We started slowly (again) and found ourselves 1 down in less than a minute. We regrouped, showed resilience and quickly turned the game around. 2 quickfire goals from the ever dangerous Carmel Burke, the first following in a Grace Smith free kick that the home keeper parried, then the second a cool finish after latching on to a pass from Grace Smith. We continued to create chances, with Carmel having a goal ruled out for offside. This forced the home side into a tactical change, and it wasnt long before they equalised, a speculative long range effort catching out our keeper. A stop start first half saw the referee indicate six minutes of added time, and a defensive mix up let the dangerous Melbourne number 9 in on goal, rounding the keeper and playing into the empty net despite Tegan trying to get back to cover. At half time we talked about the belief that we could get back into the game, and how we deserved to be competing at this level. The hosts extended their lead on 57 minutes but an absolute worldie of a free kick from POTM Grace Smith pulled one back within 2 minutes. The last half hour lacked the quality of the first 60 minutes as both teams tired, the home side looking more likely to score, with Rubie pulling off a couple of sharp saves. The full time whistle went and despite the disappointment we were really proud of our performance. We said we would give our best, and we did.

We wish Melbourne Dynamoes Ladies the best of luck for the next round and the forthcoming season.

Great Performance vs Newark town ladies 1st team

Today we travelled, with a squad of 13, to take on Step 6 side Newark Town Ladies FC, our second pre-season friendly as we prepare for our FA Cup tie next week and another season in Lincolnshire Women & Girls Football League Premier Division.

The hosts started brightly, as we struggled to get going, and they deservedly took the lead on 10 minutes with an outstanding long distance strike that gave our goalkeeper no chance. We could have found ourselves further behind, however a combination of good goalkeeping, last ditch defending and wayward finishing saw us go into the drinks break the one goal behind. We reshuffled and made changes tactically (as well as having a drink!) and despite not creating many chances, we coped with the slick passing of the Newark side much better. We said at half time we needed to stay in the game, however, the home side opened us up again on 47 minutes to extend their lead. We showed great character and resilience and hit back instantly, with Claire Green firing home from close range following a corner. We grew in confidence and had our best spell of the game, pressing much sharper, forcing our hosts into mistakes and breaking quickly. We got a deserved equaliser on 55 minutes when Jen Purnell levelled, firing in from 18 yards, after good pressure and a quick pass from Amelia Stevens. The game was really close, with both teams tiring, we had a let off when an effort crashed against the bar, it seemed to be heading for a draw. However, in added on time, Newark broke through and lobbed the keeper as she advanced. A really competetive game, we may have deserved a draw, but couldn't really argue with a narrow defeat. Some real positives as we travel to Derbyshire next week for our history making appearance in the FA Cup.

Todays POTM was debutant Bella Allan, who was versatile and hardworking, she will be a fantastic addition to our squad 🔴⚫️
