Over the past few months, I’ve been working through the Good Health @ Work programme with GetSet UK and Laura (GetSet UK facilitator), and I’m so pleased that NeuroEdge Growth has achieved the Gold Award.

It’s been a valuable process—taking time to reflect, build better habits, and make sure what I deliver to others is something I genuinely live and apply.

You can’t sustainably support performance, leadership, and culture in others if you’re not paying attention to your own.

Thank you Laura for all your support along the way—it’s been fun working with you.

Sharing a testimonial I received after delivering a workshop at a resilience retreat last month.

Here’s the feedback from the retreat host:
“I invited Isabel to support my third Resilience Retreat. These retreats are intentionally small and bespoke, and I carefully select contributors to ensure the right blend of expertise, approach, and personality for our guests.
Isabel pitched her workshop perfectly, and it complemented the other sessions wonderfully. She skilfully balanced the sharing of research and evidence with reflective thinking and practical planning, creating a session that was both engaging and meaningful.
Isabel is highly knowledgeable and has a natural ability to share her scientific expertise in a way that feels accessible and relevant to busy people navigating everyday life.
Feedback from guests has been extremely positive, and several have already integrated elements of Isabel’s session into their personal and professional planning moving forward.
Thank you, Isabel!”

Why trust, leadership, and culture are important safety tools Over the past decade, the UK has seen a significant shift towards prioritising patient safety. Increased staffing, dedicated funding, and the introduction of patient safety specialists have all been positive steps. Yet despite these initiatives, progress in improving patient safety outcomes has remained relatively small (Government Review of Patient Safety, 2025…...

🧠 5 Things I Do to Keep My Brain (and Mood) in Good Shape

Over the years, I’ve learned that looking after myself makes a bigger difference than the younger me ever thought it would.

I now get sick less frequently and when I do, it's more mild, I say “yes” to more of the things I actually want to do, and avoid that sluggish, low-energy feeling I get if I've not exercised for a few days, or I haven't rested after a busy week, or I haven't eaten the right foods.

Here are my daily priorities:

1️⃣ Move my body – Aerobic exercise boosts neurogenesis (yep, it literally helps your brain grow new cells).
2️⃣ Get enough sleep – It’s key for memory, focus, and mood.
3️⃣ Drink plenty of water – Even mild dehydration affects how clearly we think.
4️⃣ Take real downtime – Rest stops burnout before it starts.
5️⃣ Stay connected – Time with people I care about always leaves my brain and heart feeling better.

These small things keep me balanced, focused, and in a much better headspace.

💭 What’s one thing you do that helps your brain (and mood) feel good?

Why I Exercise Before Work (and What It Does to My Brain)

For me, exercise isn’t just about fitness — it’s a tool I use to work better.

Most mornings, I train before I start my day. Here’s what happens:
🧠 Exercise boosts dopamine and serotonin — brain chemicals linked to motivation, mood, and focus.
💡 It also increases blood flow to the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that helps with planning, decision-making, and self-control.

⚡ The result? I feel calmer, clearer, and more able to tackle deep work.
It’s not just me — research shows that regular movement during the day improves focus, reduces stress, and helps regulate emotions.

That’s why many people use exercise as part of their mental toolkit, not just their physical one.

👉 Practical takeaway: You don’t need a full workout to feel the benefits. Even a brisk walk, stretching, or movement breaks during the day can reset your brain and improve performance.

For me, a morning run or workout sets the tone for my day. For you, it might be something different. The key is finding a routine that helps your brain work with you, not against you.

Do you have a go-to ritual that helps you focus for the day ahead?

And then he used to wonder why people were scared of him

🤦‍♀️

Sadly, this lack of self-awareness and EQ is not uncommon in the work place. People don't realise how much of an impact their poor communication behaviours have on their team.

This kind of behaviour damages team moral, productivity and trust.

Leaders who score higher on self-awareness are viewed as more successful by their team, they are more committed, better at mentoring, more able to influence the people they are working with.

This helps them become more inspirational and authentic leaders.

Ever hesitated to speak up at work because you were worried about the reaction? In healthcare, this hesitation can impact patient safety.

Last week I delivered a talk on this at a patient safety network meeting.

I revealed some of the research, showing that teams who feel safe to raise concerns catch problems earlier and improve care.
Leaders can create this safety by listening openly and following up with action. What helps you feel safe to speak up?

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking at the East of England Patient Safety Network on “From Silence to Safety: The Neuroscience of Speaking Up.” 🧠💬

We explored:
-> How our brains react when we speak up—or stay silent
-> The behaviours that create psychological safety
-> Practical ways to encourage open communication in teams

Some of the feedback from the session:
✨ “Really useful and interesting—thank you!”
✨ “Would love for this presentation to be shared - really useful and interesting - thank you”
✨ “Thank you for the presentation - that was excellent”
✨ “Thank you for a very good session”
✨ “Thank you, Isabel, for reminding us of the behaviours we need to practice to promote psychological safety—such an important subject.”

If you want to create a culture where your team feels safe to speak up and share ideas, send me a message—I’d love to help!

Great leaders lead with empathy.
When people feel seen and heard, their brains shift from threat mode into growth mode—unlocking engagement, creativity, and resilience.
The question is: how are you bringing empathy into your daily interactions? 💭

I am offering discounted rates on coaching and training programs for a limited time only.

🌱 Leadership isn’t just about driving results — it’s about how you bring your team with you.
I often meet leaders who are: ambitious entrepreneurs with small, dedicated teams who are deeply invested in growth. They love what they do, set high standards, and inspire people with their vision.

But all leaders face challenges behind the scenes:
- Long hours and constant pressure leading to stress and burnout
- Emotions sometimes spilling over, leaving tension in the team
- Feedback that doesn’t always land as intended
- Accountability and boundaries that aren’t as clear as they could be

What makes the difference is learning to:
✨ Regulate stress and stay calm under pressure
✨ Communicate in a way that motivates and inspires
✨ Build trust and accountability in a small team
✨ Put systems in place that create consistency and fairness
✨ Set healthy boundaries — for yourself and your people

This is the kind of support I offer through neuroscience-informed leadership coaching.

And for a short time, I’m opening up a small number of discounted 1:1 sessions.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you. 💬
