Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure

Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure is Yorkshire’s newest recreational diving facility.
(270)

Called ‘Blue Lagoon’ by the locals because of its stunning blue colour, its official name is Spring Lodge Lake. A flooded limestone quarry, it has been left to it’s own devices for over 10 years, with very little in the way of landscaping or major works, this has meant that the site boasts approximately 32 acres of woodland, meadow, scrubland and of course aquatic areas with a plethora of wildlife.

After lockdown 2 is finally over, we are now able to resume our operation, albeit on a reduced basis.
We're open for servicing, air refills and equipment sales, so if you want to jump January's servicing queue or take advantage of Christmas offers in the shop, then get your skates on.
Regarding training, the pools still remain closed, however, we are able to continue classroom and open water training, based at Blue Lagoon, but only if travel restrictions allow as we are currently in a Tier 2 area.
We are open at Blue LAgoon, 10am to 1pm Wednesday to Sunday.
So we hope to see you before Christmas, or if you don't get a chance to visit us, please have a great Christmas and we will see you in the New Year for a fresh start.
Happy Christmas everyone!

Well, we did it!!! We put on an awesome event, we managed the Covid situation, and we recieved a must excellent report from British Triathlon yesterday too (see attached)! The participant feedback we have recieved so far have been remarkable, and all the hard work which we have put in prior to the event....well, it’s all been worth while! We are very lucky to have a fab venue and a bloody amazing team of volunteers to assist - take a bow!

A lot of you yesterday were aware of a cycle accident that happened to one of the participants out on the bike course, I am pleased to report Mike from Cleethorpes Tri has been discharged from hospital last night and yes has some pretty nasty road rash, he only has a broken bike! He would like to thank all who have asked after him and to those that stopped to assist too. If anyone was a witness to the incident can you please use the following details to assist;

Incident number NYP-17082020-0152

To Any of you who knew John Camm , an RNLI donation in his name would be appreciated at this sad time. John was instrumental in starting Martin and I in the business of diving - a super guy with a wicked sense of humour and a very good friend. RIP John, we will miss you.

Read their story and make a donation.

I Can’t believe this!!! Some thieving ‘toe rags’ have stolen our gates between 2 & 4.30 today! They are quite distinctive and are very heavy. If you see or hear anything about their whereabouts, please let us or North York’s police know. As if things aren’t bad enough with our business being closed at the moment. We’re gutted!

TEMPORARY CLOSURE INFORMATION
As ever the health and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues remains our top priority and therefore following the latest Government advice, and with a heavy heart we recently had to announce that Above & Below and Blue Lagoon closed temporarily with immediate effect and until further notice.
We would like to thank every single one of our loyal customers for your kind words and support through this unprecedented time in continuing to support our independent business. Please be assured we are monitoring the latest Government advice closely to enable us to continue to ensure our customers and team are safe.
We are continuing to monitor calls and enquires via email and telephone since the closure, and will endeavour to rebook all existing training courses & bookings without any additional fees, but please bear with us in these difficult and unprecedented times.
As we are unaware at this time how long our temporary closure will last, we will update our information alongside the latest Government advice.
May we also take this opportunity to offer our upmost gratitude from us all, to our NHS, care workers, emergency service workers and all key workers fighting to keep us all safe and carrying us through this crisis on the front line each day.
From the Above & Below / Blue Lagoon Team, we would like to thank you for your overwhelming support and patience through this time and we look forward to welcoming you back after this difficult time.
We hope that you and your loved ones stay safe

WOW - What a month and what a fantastic start to 2020. February has seen us get straight backing into our diving season with a bang - with the water temp still a little chillier than usual for this time of year, we have concentrated on our pool training for this 'waterlogged' February, and what an achievement - 51 PADI Open Water students have started their journey with us. Thank you to the Scouts groups coming along to have some fun and a go at diving for the first time, also, our Seals did brilliantly too - Ellie, Grace, Stanley, Max, Zak, Jake, Jessica, Emma, Jacob, Olivia, Milly, Theo and Drew. On to Mari, Daniel, Nigel, Michelle, Olivia, Nadia Cockett, Patrick, Izzy, Mike Dennett, Rose Bridges and William - good job on completing your dry suit workshop and orientation dives you're now ready for open water diving, no matter the weather! Emma, you smashed your Reactivate and are now ready for your holiday in the Maldives - we're not jealous, not one bit!
With our ongoing Divemaster and Instructor Development training taking place, we've certainly kept the bubbles blowing, thanks to our awesome team, look out March - here we come!
Anyone wanting to join us for training or fun dives, please contact us [email protected] or 01482 222266 and see what we've got going on.

We'd also like to welcome Askern Radio Control Sailing Club, now based at Blue Lagoon - If you fancy joining this group or simply want to spectate or see what they're up to, do drop by to one of their sailing days - Thursdays and Sundays, they're a great bunch and will make you feel very welcome.

Thanks for the award PADI!
In 2019, Above & Below Store #3723 and 5* Instructor Development Centre, celebrated 20 years - at the dive show, PADI presented Martin Ainsworth with this award, recognising us for our dedication and service these past 20 years.
Time sure has flown by- we've met some very interesting people along the way, made some lifelong friends with our shared passion for diving and done some amazing diving. With your help, may there be many more!

The Farnes consist of almost 30 small islands and rock outcrops lying between 2 and 4 miles off the Northumberland coast. They are split into two main groups separated by a stretch of water known as Staple Sound - this is where the fantastic diving we know and love takes place. On our trips this year, we are supplying the services of a local guide, to ensure you are fully aware and prepared for the different dives which can be done, but also, to provide you with the option of completing the Seal Awareness speciality course - fantastic way of not only learning about and gaining a thorough understanding of these fabulous locals, but also raising awareness of their conservation needs. The grey seal colony is some 4-5000 individuals, and an encounter with a mature bull is sure to get your heart racing, or a face to face with a juvenile will pull at your heart strings!

Want to teach first aid? Not just for divers, but for anyone with the ability to learn - then look no further, we are running an Emergency First Response Instructor course at Blue Lagoon on Sunday 23rd February at 10am. Cost is £185 (plus PADI application Fee).
During the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you will build on your skill as an Emergency Responder and focus on developing your instructional abilities to teach these skills to others.
The instructor course covers specific goals and performance requirements for the Primary Care, Secondary Care, Care for Children and CPR & AED courses, along with instruction on how to structure learning, the requirements of performance-based training, and your role as the instructor in the learning environment. You also learn how to motivate students, evaluate student knowledge, present course content effectively, become proficient in developing students’ hands-on skills practice sessions, and are taught how to present an effective scenario-based learning experience. You’ll also receive information helpful in marketing your EFR business.
Prerequisites:
To enter the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you must be 18 years old and have completed CPR and first aid training in the past 24 months or a be a practicing medical professional such as a physician, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic or Registered Nurse.
