Well that’s a wrap folks season 3 completed and what a brilliant season it’s been.

We closed out in style last night with our presentation do hosted at the Rustic Kitchen in Bewdley. The girls cleverly switched up tactics this year, with Paige and Naomi surprising me with some lovely words to kick off proceedings and turn me into an emotional wreck from the get go. Well done, fair play you got me good and proper this year. Mission achieved I suppose 😂 👏

Composure regained and I meant every single word to said. The team have been outstanding all season and a joy to coach; they’ve been consistently committed to training and games and it’s shown in the superb performances we’ve seen all season and a well deserved league trophy.

Congrats to all our award winners - you absolute deserve the recognition and I’m absolutely chuffed for Paige and Mia who have been voted in as our captains for next season.

I’m sure I speak on behalf of all the parents and supporters when I say we’re very proud of you all. Just keep doing what you’re doing and there’s an exciting future ahead for each of you.

Special mention and thanks to;

- the parents and supporters who really are our 10th player. You lot are the best supporters ever.
- the wife who puts up some sort of football orientated chat every single day, secretly I think she loves it really.
- Sue and our club committee who unselfishly work behind the scenes to keep the club thriving.
- my asst coaches who help create such a positive environment within which the team thrive

What a cracking team who play great football in absolutely the right way.

I cannot wait to see what next season has in store for us.

Who doesn’t love a bit of mid week football!? An intriguing return to action last night as Lioness matched up against Lion as we played our U11 Lions in a friendly.

Captain for the game Caitlin captured the mood perfectly reminding the team to embrace the challenge and play with confidence. Couldn’t have said it better myself 👏

Great pace from the very start as both sides moved the ball around at speed treating both sets of supporters to an exciting game of proper football from start to finish.

The Lions team looked particularly dangerous attacking down the flanks and clinical first time shots kept Iris on her toes all game providing a chance to showcase her strong shot stopping talents.

Despite being goals down at half time enthusiasm didn’t falter one bit as we drew a line under it and started the 2nd half well motivated and raring to go. An energetic start to the half from the Lionesses was rewarded when Paige created room and delivered a a classic signature strike to the far corner.

Credit to our rotating back line of defenders who ran their socks off to fend off the Lions attacks and our gutsy midfielders who didn’t shy away from tackles but I was particularly impressed with the positivity throughout and without a doubt mental resilience runs strong through the team.

Thanks to the Lions who were very worthy
winners and played the game in exactly the right way.

Congrats Paige winner if the Tekkers award for bringing a ball down under control which started somewhere close to the moon. I suppose your goal wasn’t too shabby either.

Congrats Iris this weeks Parents choice for girl of the game for making a fine array of saves coupled with providing positive direction for your defenders.

Congrats Ellah the coaches girl of the game for putting in an energetic performance, listening to the specific request to stick close to their player and delivering a robust performance to be proud of.

Feel good factor was high after this game and without any doubt was a positive learning experience.

What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Nerves shot to pieces, voice lost, and we’ve all aged 10 years but we would do it all again in a heartbeat.

In picture perfect conditions at Pershore Towns ground and in front of friends and family from far and wide our Lionesses delivered a performance we will never forget to be crowned Mercian League Cup Winners 2025/26! Quite frankly incredible.

In the build up we predicted this would be a close nip and tuck game against Nunnery Wood and the game was exactly that. Relatively few chances but full of impressive content between two well matched footballing sides made for a fitting finale to the season.

After a pre game warm up to shake out any nerves, captain Paige delivered a well thought out pre game speech which hit home perfectly. Motivated and brimming with excitement the game started at a strong pace with both sides seeking an early goal.

Defensively both sides looked well organised throughout and credit to our rotating defenders who kept Nunnery outside of shooting range restricting their chances.

Our midfielders were set the specific tasks of not letting anyone past them easily and pressuring the ball when out of possession and I cannot fault the effort in such a high paced game.

We looked at our most dangerous when we attacked with intent down the wings getting behind the full backs or when we played the ball forward for our rotating lone striker Caitlin/Maisey/Chloe to run onto.

Towards the end thoughts of penalties crept in but as time started to ebb away Paige nearly dispelled the prospect when her driven strike pinged off the upright. Very fine margins indeed.

All square at the final whistle meant the game would be settled on penalties. An experience few players look forward to. We’ve been on the other side of it in tournaments but not today the random eye of fate looked kindly on us. Utmost respect for Izzy We, Paige, Maisey, Caitlin and Izzy Wa who stepped up to take their penalties when called upon. Not an easy task at all.

I swear a speck of dirt got in my eye at the end but in between sorting that out I’ll never forget the scenes at the end, Tom sprinted the length of the pitch, the team danced around like loons and rumour has it even Izzy J cracked a smile. Absolute joy personified.

If that wasn’t enough a full on rendition of Happy Birthday was delivered with a gusto for Caitlin who concluded it was her best birthday ever. Now if that isn’t the icing on the cake I don’t know what is.

Congrats Izzy Wa the winner of the Tekkers award for showing us how cool you are under pressure. Cutting out the noise and distraction you struck the final deciding penalty with a calm confidence…and then went quite rightly nuts!

Congrats Ruby the rock winner of this weeks Parents Girl of the Game. You marshalled our back line, made important well timed challenges and when the opportunity presented itself kept the ball at your feet and took the space in front of you. Assured performance Rubes.

Congrats Iris the winner of the Coaches Girl of the Game. Your communication skills kept us organised at the back and you dealt with what you had to during the game with a quiet efficiency. Clearly nervous heading into the penalty shoot out but when called upon you stepped up for your team and delivered; saving two penalties including a perfectly executed diving save. To cap off a fine game performance we were impressed with the empathy you showed the Nunnery keeper at the end. Superb sportsmanship Iris 👏

Thank you Mercian League and the game officials for providing a wonderful game day experience for our team. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.

The Ultras - well what can I say. Today you brought your ‘A’ game and then some. You really are our 10th player with the way you support and energise the team.

Thank you Rich for setting up the perfect after party for us at Retroids in Worcester. Exactly what we needed to decompress after the match and talk about Toms surprising turn of pace at the end of the game.

Iris, Izzy We, Naomi, Mia, Ruby, Ellah, Izzy J, Paige, Bella, Matilda, Chloe, Maisey, Izzy Wa and Caitlin you should all walk a bit taller after today. What a team, be proud of yourselves and each other. Relish the experience and save these precious memories.

Right I’m now going for a lie down, I might see you if I wake up in time for training on Tuesday!

They say you should never start a story with an apology but what do they know.
Sorry folks a limited write up this week as yours truly was unexpectedly unable to make the first half of the game. I thought about padding out the report with another Barry Fry gem of a story but these aren’t to be wasted, they are so good they deserve a feature in their own right.

Yesterday we closed out our spring series of games as we hosted Welland at our home ground. Another bright spring morning welcomed the players as they arrived with our home ground looking picture perfect.

Maisey our captain for the game delivered a well thought out pre game speech for her team and you sense the energy in the words.

The first part of the game found us struggling to establish a consistent rhythm to our play and chances were few and far between. The most exciting moment of the first half fell to Maisey who latched onto a crisp through ball to hit the back of the net only for the goal to be ruled out for off side. Unlucky and that takes nowt aware from your striking instincts around the goal we’ve seen in recent weeks.

Shortly into the second half and clearly distracted by my arrival total confusion ensued after Matilda grabbed and practically tried for 3pts with the football (ok ok a bit of artistic licence there) and the juxtaposition combo of a whistle and play on bamboozled our defenders just long enough for the Welland striker to take advantage and slot the ball past the diving Iris.

Unperturbed our Lionesses knowing they were chasing the game rallied and pressed regularly into the opposition half. Very direct play down both wings saw us win a fair amount of corners and also create chances from open play but stout defensive work from Wellend kept us from finding the time we needed in front of goal to get a clear shot away.

Congrats Izzy J winner of the Tekkers award of delivering a pin point through ball.

Congrats Chloe the parents player of the game for reading the game well defending when called upon but also supporting our attacks with your trademark burst sprints.

Congrats Maisey the coaches player of the game. Very impressed with your energy levels and positive influence on the game right through to the final whistle.

No game planned next week as we sense the need to fully recharge the batteries in prep for our league final the weekend after.

Lately we’ve been spoiled and once again Mother Nature served up ideal conditions yesterday as we welcomed the Wolverley Swans to our home ground on a glorious spring morning.

With the playing surface looking like a bowling green lawn the stage was set for some visually splendid passing football and our Lionesses didn’t disappoint.

Izzy We’s well thought out captains pre game speech reminded her team mates of how well they are playing and to go out there and show the opposition. Izzy’s motivating words certainly fired up her team and had the desired effect.

Throughout the first half I was impressed the most by how quick we were to react and pounce on loose balls. Really strong reading of the game and sharp anticipation 👏. Providing teams with lots of time on the ball seems to be, for now, in our rear view.

There was a lot to like about the first half and thinking more on it, I can’t remember a single wayward pass. Very efficient football Lionesses to even give Bayer Leverkusen’s 2024/25 season a run for its money.

Half time saw us switch up formation and tactics to encourage more stressed defensive situations. If SATs included coping with defending long balls played over the top or though the back line our defenders would without a doubt be in top set at High School in Sept. Really assured defending.

In keeping with our Spring series plan we kept players rotating positions to aid their broader understanding of the game. Understandably a few had slight trepidations but I really cannot fault how they dug in and applied themselves. I assure you there’s always method in the madness.

Great performance Lionesses and as I say always pleasing to record multiple different goalscorers which shows just how dangerous we are across the team.

Congrats Naomi our Tekkers award winner this week for showing us a body feint we’ve been working on in practice to mis-step the defender and give you the space needed to get a shot on target.

Congrats Maisey the winner of the first ever Parents Girl of the Game. You certainly brought the energy to the party and were a constant menace in or around the opposition goal.

Congrats Mia the weeks Coaches Girl of the Game. One of your strengths is how you stay laser focused and read the game so well. You showed us sharp decision making; identifying when to step in and intercept or drop into cover. We were also impressed how when nominated to take a penalty you just grabbed the ball, backed yourself and found the corner with pin point accuracy.

Thank you to Wolverley for hosting us after the game which was greatly appreciated by all.

Yesterday we kicked off our Spring series of games in style as the Lionesses crossed the South Staffs border to play Kinver in a friendly.

Always a lovely venue and as the players arrived you could sense how eager they were to get started after a slight pause in proceedings last weekend.

Captain for the game Matilda set the tone with a commanding pre game speech which had the desired impact. Straight from kick off the Lionesses set the pace of the game mixing one touch football with driving runs. Just a few
mins in and our first bona fide chance fell to Matilda who relishing the captaincy stuck the ball cleanly but alas just wide.

Sticking with the high press most of the action at the start of the first half was in the oppositions half of the field. After a few chances it was starting striker Chloe who opened the scoring with what’s quickly becoming her trademark sprint forwards onto her own through ball followed by a deft finish into the far corner. A deadly combo if ever there was one.

Clearly feeling confident just a few mins later after another similar sprint past the last defender Chloe found the net again this time with an exquisite lob a prime Cristoph Dugarry would have been proud of.

Kinver responded with a gusto and it took some disciplined press and cover defending mixed with really strong communication to keep their players out of dangerous striking range. What chances did creep through Iris swept up with confidence.

10 mins to go in the first half and the speed of play was as fast as we’ve seen all season. No lingering whatsoever when in possession and the huge effort put in by our midfield played a massive part. Before the half closed out Paige got her just rewards after treating us to quite splendid bit of ball mastery to create the room she needed to release a pin point strike with her left boot into the far corner.

Great first half and lots of smiles during the break but Matilda quite rightly grounded the feeling with a simple message of we’ve played well that half but we need to do it again. Spot on as we know no game has ever been won at half time.

Rotating personnel we switched up formation to 2-4-2 to challenge our defenders to focus on working effectively as a pair whilst asking our wingers to sprint back and support when Kinver attacked down the flanks.

Embracing the challenge; instructions were followed to a tee and with the extra striker we created more passing channels and options in the final third. Even the most casual observer would have spotted the amount of good old fashioned crossing opportunities we created from the byline as our two strikers drew attention in the middle.

Now the saying goes if the balls bouncing around just swing a leg (I’ve possibly made that up but it fits the narrative) - and Bella found out to her benefit how true that is. After a wicked cross into the box and with the ball pinballing around Bella just stuck a leg out and found the net for the second time in the last two games.

Finally as the game clock dwindled away Izzy We operating from the right wing position showed us how skilful she is with a classy v cut and then sprint to gain the step on the opposition player cut followed by an almost carbon copy of her strike a few weeks ago Izzy spotted the gap and fired with power inside the near post.

Always pleasing to have multiple goalscorers and keep a clean sheet so I scored our performance 9/10 incurring boos from the partisan Ultras who thought it should have been full marks but there’s always room for improvement folks!

Congrats Izzy We who scooped the Tekkers award for your fine bit of skill and finish towards the end of the game. Very deadly.

Congrats Chloe this weeks girl of the game for putting in a performance full of energy and effective football from start to finish. You were very difficult to defend against and your brace was well deserved. Also as you know I don’t normally do the sweet stuff but the birthday cakes were well received.

Our Spring series continues next weekend as we welcome Wolverley Swans to our home ground.
