You can have the slickest stall set up in the room (or on the field in my case on Saturday) and still leave with nothing if you haven't done these three things first

This weekend? Something even bigger is coming

Years of running event stalls gave me a head start when I started working in the children's activity sector. But watching incredible providers leave events with so little to show for their hard work? That's what pushed me to put everything I know into something that actually helps. Watch this space 👀

Coming into running children's classes with a background in events meant I had a head start most people didn't get. For me, watching all of those brilliant providers struggle at running stalls when they didn't need to? That really stuck with me

Something's coming. Save this post

Quick introduction if you've just found my page

Hi, I'm Cari. I'm a children's activity business strategist and events expert. Which is a fancy way of saying I know how to use the events in your local community to help you fill your activities and classes for babies, children and toddlers.

I also run my own children's activity business - I have a language franchise where I teach French, Spanish and Italian to 0-11 year olds. Before that I was a charity campaigner and worked at more events than I care to count. Which means I know how to get the most out of your event without breaking your budget.

I'm also a mum of two and when I get the time, I love cooking new foods, planning my next holiday and bellydancing. Which keeps me very busy, so I do drink slightly too much coffee

Say hi in the comments and tell me what you're struggling with and I'll let you know how I can help

In preparation for my summer of events, I thought I would take advantage of the sunshine last week and check my gazebo is ok after living in our shed for a year.

In case you hadn't realised from my socials, I am quite short. I also do most of my events on my own - my family might come along and say hi, but they have their own plans.

So I need a gazebo I can put up singlehandedly. I got this one two years ago and it's fab. When I turn up to events laden down with all my kit, I do get some bemused stares and offers to help, but I always only ever bring stuff I can use on my own

What is your go-to item for events? Let me know

So it's half term for us and I've been able to organise a very exciting few days away for my family.

Part of the reason I chose this work life set up was so that I could take my children in adventures while they are still young enough to want to do them with me.

So after hitting a work target last year, I decided to treat them. I booked it months ago, paid for the nicer place to stay and kept it a secret from them until 2 weeks ago.

They are beyond excited and have been talking about it nonstop. Did this mean they were all packed, dressed and ready to go?

Of course not 🤣 - I've spent the last 30 minutes asking them to get dressed

We are finally off on our way, so I'm going to properly switch off and not think about work for a few days

So as well as attending lots of events this summer, perhaps the most exciting thing is that I'm organising one of my very own!

I've teamed up with my business bestie and we decided to host a local showcase for all of the brilliant businesses that provide classes and services and babies and toddlers locally

I'd organised events before in my previous career, so I thought I could do this.

I'm not going to lie, it's been a lot tougher than I realised and at times I worried it wasn't going to come off

But then ...
.. People started saying yes they wanted to come. People wanted to know how they could get involved, even if they couldn't make the date.

This is how I know we are on the right track and this is something people want and need to do for their businesses.

And once we've done this one, we will have everything in place to do it again and build on our success.

Keep watching to see how we get on

So it's another super professional setup from me* 🤣 while I record a presentation for someone I am a huge fan of. Delighted to be providing my insights on the importance of events for children's activity businesses

*If you think this looks bad, you should see what I did to my outfit to look a bit smarter 🤣

I read something today that asked if you treated your business as a hobby, a job or a business. The conclusion was that treating at a business was the way to go.

I couldn't disagree more.

My hobby is bellydancing - I've done it for years. I have no desire to earn any income out of it, but I have still spent a lot of time, resources and money doing it.

Why? Because it lights me up, I am good at it and I want to be the best I can at it

I feel exactly the same about my business, which is why I try to make the similar level of investment

What do you think? How do you feel about your business vs. your hobbies?

Finding marketing opportunities for your business is hard. This time of year means summer fairs, school fetes and the possibility of losing every weekend to them.

However, done the right way, attending events can make you money. These are genuine figures we made from attending one single event.

This is why we are hosting our own event this summer. Come and join us on Sunday August 16th at Jennett's Park Community Centre between 10 and 2. We have already got some amazing local businesses that run brilliant activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers who will be there.

Our taster sessions are fully booked, but we do have a few spaces left for anyone else who doesn't want to miss out on this opportunity. DM for more info
