As a club, we meet each week to play, enjoy and perhaps improve our badminton. In addition to the actual playing of the game, we also promote the social element of the sport. Broadly speaking, this might involve a chat courtside, drinks away from the club and a bit of friendly banter during the game. It might even stretch to buying Upkar expensive malt whiskys!

What we don’t need is prolonged arguing over points, undue aggressiveness and bad sportsmanship. Please also remember that there is only ONE person who chooses the next four to play. That person is the ‘first’ peg on the board.

If we can remain COURTEOUS and RESPECTFUL at all times, then we should be able to continue and enjoy our games together.

10/09/2018

OK, we're all out for drinks and a get-together this Friday (14th)! The more the merrier!

How about meeting up at The Lord Raglan at around 8.00pm? Obviously we can move onto other places if that's what we want.

I have consulted with the Club 'Elders/Wise Men' and the club should be able to buy some drinks early on in the evening! Yay!

I look forward to seeing you then.

Eric

Good morning all.

We are becoming increasingly concerned about the declining playing standards within the badminton club.

I am sure we all agree that we come to this club each week to enjoy meeting up and playing a few good games of badminton. Having too many 'weaker' players is spoiling the enjoyment for the regular attendees. Naturally, we welcome all new members to the club, but we feel we need to introduce some changes to help maintain a reasonable standard in the game.

We will mail you all again once we have decided on the most suitable/appropriate way to organise our Thursday badminton sessions. Meanwhile we have changed the wording on the page to reflect the current situation and try and discourage complete novices from attending. The current wording on Facebook is as follows:

We are a lively non-league Badminton Club and play every Thursday evening at this excellent sports centre with a high ceiling and good lighting

The club is for over 16's and the standard is reasonably good. Because of the current popularity of the club we are unable to admit beginners and ask that you be reasonably proficient at badminton.
It costs just under £5 for the two hours and we have the four courts in the main hall. Please come and introduce yourself to us on arrival so we are able to see how you will fit into the club.

We play with Yonex shuttles and collects 20p per session for the Shuttle Fund. Any excess funds are used for the occasional social event.

Often we will pop into a local pub (The Three Frogs) for a drink afterwards.

As from this week we will introduce 'Trial' pegs for newcomers. They will use these pegs for a 'probationary' period whilst we verify that their standard suits the club. Please understand that we are introducing these measures solely for the continued enjoyment of the club members. It will be to no one's advantage if members are having increasingly poor games as the club standard is diluted and then decide to leave the club.

Can I just add that, each Thursday, we all need to make a concerted effort to manage the pegs between games and ensure a foursome are READY to play once a game has finished.

Thank you for your continued co-operation.
