Progressive overload. You have most likely heard this phrase used in the gym a lot. But what does it actually entail?

Progressive overload is used to steadily increase your workouts through upping the impact on your muscles. You need to challenge the muscles to help them build!

There are several ways to do this, the most common being increasing the weight of equipment being used. This should be done steadily over time, for example: adding 1.25-2.5kg plates to your barbell each workout. This forces the muscles to work harder.

There are several other methods including:
✨ Upping the number of reps and/ or sets (Volume)
✨ Adding in holds and pauses during the movement
✨ Taking shorter rest periods
✨Lifting the weight over a greater distance (range of motion)

Tracking your workouts is a great way of ensuring you are progressively overloading.

If you want help designing and tracking your workouts or want struggle knowing what to do in the gym, drop me a message! 💃💪🏻✨

Key components to remember alongside your training:

-Water Intake
-Decent regular sleep, 7-9 hours per night
-Taking rest day(s)
-Protein intake
-Getting your steps in

Give your body the best chance at smashing your goals by fuelling it with the right rest, hydration and food.

YOU’VE GOT THIS! 💪🏻✨

Things I do whilst training and losing body fat:
•Eat carbs 🔥
•Eat sugars 🔥
•Take rest days 🔥
•Make time for my other hobbies and passions 🔥

Training and tracking should never restrict you from doing the things you love, like making time for a Netflix show or eating a bowl of pasta.

Balance is the key to sustainability 💪🏻

Over the last year I for one have felt pretty lazy, with lockdown and furlough meaning I have spent 90% of my time at home.
But I have come to realise that lockdown has helped me develop habits that I wish to continue come summer. Here are four habits that help me work towards my goals and keep me motivated.

🚶🏻‍♀️Daily walks. Getting your steps in each day has so many benfits, including cardio, resetting your mind, getting fresh air, moving your body and giving you time to catch up on podcasts/ audio books/ music that makes you happy.

💧Drinking more water. Being at home and taking endless zoom calls often led me to not drink through out the day. But by upping my water intake I felt less foggy and minimised headaches.

😴 Consistent bed times. Getting in to a regular sleeping pattern can really help with motivation, recovery and productivity.

💆🏻‍♀️Self care. Although cliche, it took lockdown for me to realise how much I let myself burn out. And yes it took a pandemic for me to come to this revelation. 👀 By giving myself time each day to just do something I enjoy and not feel any guilt has really changed my mindset on downtime.

What habits will you be continuing come June? 💫

GYM INTIMIDATION.

As it’s International Women’s Day I thought I would share something about gym intimidation.

I spent 4 years having a gym membership and training weekly but never setting foot in the weights area due to fear of being judged.
My worries included making mistakes, hogging equipment from men that could lift far greater than myself and being watched for being a young woman in the gym. I felt out of place.

Through talking to others and training with a PT I have come to realise that this is a commonly felt fear and something I wish to change.

It does not matter your strength, how long you have been training and most importantly your gender! The gym and more specifically weight training are for everyone and you deserve to feel safe and respected in your training.

And that’s my five cents.
Have a fabulous week my lovelies!

SUSTAINABLE CHANGE.

The best way to stick at yours goals and achieve noticeable changes to your lifestyle, mindset, fitness and nutrition is to make small, consistent choices that do not feel overwhelming.

Quick fixes might sound appealing but often come with heavily restricting yourself, leading to failure after only a week or two.

If you are wanting to start making small significant changes to your training and nutrition choices, DM me the word SUSTAINABLE or email to get started.
