My son wanted a gym bro on our holiday so I had to say yes! It’s been over 3 decades since I worked out in a gym and was quite excited. But I found it daunting when muscle laden folk occasionally worked out near me despite it being a very quiet gym (we often had it to ourselves). I felt embarrassed at what my abilities were despite my son telling me I was doing well. Then I remembered what I say to people I teach Pilates to.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
My body has been though a lot. 2 major surgeries which still impact me now, several minor surgeries, 2 of which were this year with the last one just a few weeks ago!
In my early twenties I thought I may not able to walk at this age. But here I am. In the gym. Making my son proud. Making me proud. Because I’m still trying and willing to go outside my comfort zone. No one should put barriers to exercise in place whatever it is you want to do, just do it.
And then I did some Pilates in the gym! X
