⛳️ 4 Home Truths Golfers Need to Know ⛳️

1. Every time you practice, ask yourself:

What metric am I trying to improve?
If you're just beating balls with no target, don't be surprised when progress is slow.

2. Every time you feel nervous, remember:

Even the best players in the world feel it.
Nerves don't mean you'll play badly... feel the fear and swing anyway.

3. Every time you think you've lost your swing, relax.

With the right information, it comes back.
And every time you think you've mastered the game... you haven't.

4. Every time you hit a bad shot, diagnose it:

• Ground contact (fat or thin)
• Face contact (toe or heel)
• Face direction (left or right)

It's almost always one of those.

⛳️ You Can’t Fake a 5 Iron ⛳️

It’s a bit of an old saying in the coaching world but one that will always ring true (until everyone gets a 5 Hybrid 🤣)

But it holds true, because if you’re hitting it well with the mid to short irons, then a 5 iron will find out any lurking misdemeanour’s your swing will/could be carrying.

Plus, it’s never a good idea to just practice with the easy clubs as it creates no learning or growth to your game… so get comfortable getting uncomfortable with those long irons!

⛳️ Visualisation & Skill ⛳️

Ok so it’s a shot that’s been viewed millions of times, but we can learn so much from it!

Watch how Tiger intently stares and visualises the shot, creating the whole shot and outcome in his mind

He then uses his trained skill to execute the picture and…

‘In your life have you seen anything like that?’

Well Tiger clearly did before he hit it!

The message here is to work on these two skills and your performance will exponentially improve!

⛳️ Would You Take This Swing? ⛳️

Well? would you?

I’ll bet that most wouldn’t just purely by the eye test,

But when you consider this player, Eamonn Darcy, achieved the following;

Career Earnings: €2,298,739.77 (During the 70’s & 80’s mainly btw)

16 Professional Wins (4 on the European Tour)

4 Ryder Cup appearences

Would you take it now?

The point of this post is not so much a ‘swing your swing’ post, more about not chasing aesthetics and popular swing moves, and about finding your way, your match ups and building your skill.

This approach may not win you over 2 million Euros, but it will likely let you win more of those tenners off your mates and lower that handicap!

⛳️ Why You Suck At Golf ⛳️

Golf is hard. Really hard.

I’ve seen it plenty of times at all the facilities I’ve coached at… golfers grinding, overthinking their backswing, taking advice from the “resident expert” who swears he can help you hit it like Tiger or Scottie… then promptly duffs one 30 yards.

Here’s the truth:

Most golfers suck. You probably suck. Even the pros suck.

Tour players still:

• Miss 40% of greens
• Miss 50% of 8-foot putts
• Miss 40% of fairways

Even in his prime, Tiger hit bad shots.

Why? Because the margin for error is tiny.

In golf we must:

• Strike the ground within fractions of an inch
• Return the sweet spot precisely
• Deliver the face within a few degrees
• Do it at 70–115+ mph
• Adjust for lie, wind, slope, club
• And hope luck doesn’t turn a small mistake into a big number

That’s a tough task! But what should you do?

Lower your expectations.

You’re trying to hit a 1.68-inch ball with millimeter precision at high speed. It’s amazing we hit it 200+ yards at all.

Stop comparing yourself to the Usain Bolts and Michael Jordans of golf. They’re outliers… and even they mess up.

So, If you want to be less rubbish:

• Get quality coaching 🙋🏻‍♂️
• Use better feedback 📹🟧
• Learn ball flight ✈️
• Focus on impact, not swing aesthetics 💥>💄

Oh and give yourself a break.

Golf isn’t easy. It’s just honest… as honest as this post!
