*Statement from Old Wokingians FC*

Extraordinary General Meeting - Held Monday 24th November at 8pm

On Monday 24th November Old Wokingians Football Club held an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to discuss and vote on the proposed merger with Meadow Sports FC.

During the meeting, Club Chairman Jake Knight, Vice Chairman Chris North and Club Secretary Matt Lane presented the key drivers behind this merger and shared an insight into how the combined club would look going forward.

Following a healthy discussion with club members across many generations a vote was conducted. The merger proposal was unanimously approved with 37 votes for and 0 votes against.

We will continue to keep you updated as we move forward with discussions in the coming months.

A huge thank you to all club members that came and participated in this important night for the club. We now look forward to a bright future.

Jake Knight
Old Wokingians Chairman

Old Wokingians Football Club (“the club”) was formed in 1928 by former pupils of Woking County Grammar School for Boys (“the school”). Until the closure of the school in 1979 membership was restricted to former pupils and staff of the school. In 1979 membership was extended to all current and former pupils and staff of Woking College and any other individuals admitted to membership under clause 3 of the club’s constitution, including Honorary Vice Presidents (“HVP”) and Honorary Life Members (“HLM”). This is the definition of “a Member”, “the Members” and “the Membership” of the club

The club is run by its Management Committee (“the Committee”) as elected at Annual General Meetings. Three current members of the Committee are former pupils of the school and the remainder have been active playing members of the club for many seasons. We would like to think that all members of the Committee are deeply committed to the best interests of the club.

The Committee is currently considering some strategic proposals which may fundamentally affect the future of the club, both on and off the pitch. If and when the Committee agree the details of these proposals they will be presented to the Membership at an EGM.

The Committee recognises that the Membership of the club, includes many people who have had no involvement or interest in the club and indeed are virtually impossible for us to identify and contact directly. However the importance of the decisions that may need to be made must be seen to be taken in accordance with the rules of the Club.

The purpose of this notice, posted on our social media platforms and sent to our current email lists, is to give anyone who is an eligible Member (and not currently a playing member, Committee Member, HLM, HVP or member of Wokingians Old Players Association (“WOPA”)) and wishes to be involved in the potential decisions over the future of the club the opportunity to register their right to vote in an EGM by contacting our Honorary Secretary, Matt Lane, providing details of their eligibility and contact details (preferably an email address to which details of the proposals and EGM can be sent). The Committee’s decision on a person’s eligibility as a Member will be final.

Please contact Matt Lane by email at [email protected] by Saturday 1st November at the latest.
