es of lakes, fringed with bulrushes, reeds and lilies, give the course its distinctive and unique characteristic with water ever present. The 6,256 yard course is separated into 2 loops providing a choice of starting positions. Every hole is different and whilst the course may not be the longest by today’s modern designs a good score will require careful strategy and use of every club in your bag. The best players may well be tempted to take on the challenge of longer carries yet the design gives the less experienced player a safer and more productive route. Different combinations of tee positions provide a challenge for players of all abilities and the unique design ensures no two rounds are the same.

MAJOR WEEK

On Thursday, the best players on the planet tee it up at Shinnecock Hills for the US Open. We won't be putting it on the screens — it runs well past midnight on this side of the Atlantic, and nobody's at their best watching golf at 2am.

But here's the thing about major week: it's the best week of the year to get out and play your own. Something about watching the game at its sharpest makes you want to feel a proper round under your feet — the lakes, the fairways, the one approach shot that comes off exactly how you pictured it.

So while they're grinding it out on Long Island, the tee sheet here is open and the course is looking the part. Trainers, shorts, questionable golf hat — all welcome. Just bring your game.

Come for the golf. Stay for the football.

It's the greatest summer in football, and we're showing all of it — big screens in The Lounge, more screens out on the patio, ice-cold Budweiser and a proper match-day menu running through.

And it starts this week. England vs Croatia, Wednesday night, 9pm. Play a round in the afternoon, settle in for the football as the sun goes down. Cold pints, the grill on, the best atmosphere in Surrey — and no rush to be anywhere, just make sure and book a table!

The football's on. The big screen's bigger.

It's the biggest summer of sport in years, and there's no better place to land after eighteen holes than here, with it all on the big screen.

England's group games are the ones to grab a table for: Croatia on Wednesday 17th, Ghana on Tuesday 23rd, Panama on Saturday 27th, all around 9pm. £5 a head, your first drink's on us, and the knockouts and final after that. Tables for the England nights are worth booking ahead.

Big day. Real fun. No fuss.

Here's the thing about a round at Pyrford: it's not just about the golf. It's the music playing before you've even reached the door, the grill going on the terrace, and a crowd that actually wants you there.

Book a tee time, roll up when it suits you, and play at your own pace. No membership to sort, no dress code to second-guess, no one telling you how it's done. Off scratch or still working out which end of the club to hold — you'll fit right in.

Then don't dash off. The bar's open, the pizza oven's on, and the lake's a fine spot to sit with a cold one and let the afternoon do its thing. That's rather the point.
