Fushi Cho Kan Aikido Dojo Colchester

Fushi Cho Kan Aikido Dojo Colchester All life is a manifestation of the spirit, the manifestation of love. - Morihei Ueshiba Fushi Cho Kan (Phoenix Dojo) came into being in Witham, Essex.

It was formed from what was left from an earlier club that practised at Bramston Sports centre. In 1992 we affiliated to the British Aikido Federation (BAF). About 12 years ago, we relocated to the Arena Leisure Centre in Colchester. We practise traditional Aikido under the guidance of Minoru Kanetsuka (Technical Director of the BAF) and senior instructors of the BAF. All members are eligible and

encouraged to attend national and international courses with these talented teachers. You don't need a gi (white uniform) to start. Just wear loose trousers & T-shirt, and have flip flops or sandals to wear between the changing room & the mat. Beginners are always welcome at any time, no matter what your physical abilities as all the instructors will work around your needs. People with disabilities are also welcome. First lesson is free!

Hi all. I attended British Aikido Federation Summer School this week. I wasn't in my best condition but was able to take part.
It was very good to meet, practise and socialise with friends old and new. It appears that I may be the oldest member of the BAF. I'll shall be 82 next month. On a good day, I feel alright. I haven't given up yet.
I would like to get our dojo up and running again. We need a replacement training venue. AFFORDABLE. The last place increased the hall hire fees by 61%. Pure greed. Not affordable.
If possible, I would like to welcome our old (and not so old) members back again.
I send my best wishes to all my old Aikido friends.

We have been unable to train for some time as we have been without a venue. Millfields School where we used to train said they were going to make a slight increase in the hall rental fees. The slight increase turned out to be 60% which made it unaffordable.
Meanwhile, I had a total knee replacement of my right knee that put me off training for some time.
I am now eager to resume activities. Any assistance in finding an affordable venue would be appreciated. I do not charge for teaching and any mat fees are purely to pay for the hall/venue expenses.

As Senior instructor of this dojo, I have had surgery twice so far this year. Maybe one more to come. So please forgive me, I have been less active than usual. My objective is to find a new affordable venue and to continue on the path of practicing traditional Aikido as I received from my Sensei, Minoru Kanetsuka.

Right now, I am recovering from a total knee replacement of my right knee. It has been very painful and has limited my activities considerably. Some days are better than others and today has been comparatively good. It will be some time before I will be able to practice Aikido again but I will do so when I am able. I look forward to that time.

It will soon be Christmas so much to do before then. I have a knee replacement scheduled for the 22nd of January so I won't be able to train for some time after that. It needs doing as I am in constant pain right now.
I have had a conversation with Tiffany, one of our seniors and I would be happy for her to take over while I am incapacitated, with my support, of course.

I have a long standing problem with my right knee. I have managed to continue my practce. However the last three weeks have been very painful. I have seen a consultant and he has put me on his list for a replacement. Probably early next year.

Right now, we are trying to find a new venue.to practise. Millfields School icreased the hall hire fees to a level we could not afford. Regretably we had to say no.I had a response to my enquiries two days ago from someone that qu oted £65 per hour for use of their hall. I won't consider that. I have written to others that haven't bothered to reply. I will not give up.
