Final studio classes done for this โ€œyearโ€ before the long summer holiday break ๐Ÿ˜Ž

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Iโ€™m always so grateful for every client showing up each week with whatever is going on for her in her life and her body and being prepared to work on it.

๐Ÿ˜Š My clients are open and vulnerable, accepting and giving and supportive of others in their class too. Itโ€™s an honour to give women the space they need to understand their bodies, connect with what they need to make progress and gently guide and encourage them on their way.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ I continue with my online groups - Connect Your Core course and The Connected Collective membership - over the summer ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Why do I strength train?
So I can enjoy rather than endure mega activities with my family!

This weekend we did another walk - wild camp - walk with a 20km South Downs way walk.

For what itโ€™s worth I wanted to share some things Iโ€™ve learned from a few self sufficient trips.

๐Ÿ‘ Wear bamboo underwear! Stops all the potential stinks from overwhelming you as youโ€™re walking! I wear pants are theyโ€™re great - no chafe and no smells!

โ„๏ธ Take layers - seems obvious but it still amazes me how chilly it can get in the evening and early morning even when itโ€™s boiling during the day. I love a merino layer if you can find something you like, and I love my merino cowl neck top - takes up hardly any room and keeps me toasty.

โš–๏ธ Get as lightweight camping gear as you can afford - it means you can pack more tea and biscuits! Iโ€™m enjoying my cloud base sleeping mat and pillow and I have a silk liner to make my lightweight sleeping bag warmer too with no extra bulk to carry.

๐Ÿฅพ Wear boots or shoes that really properly fit you, not ones that look like boots a walker/adventuring person wears (do you really need leather ones?). I wear my trail shoes to walk in because I know my feet will never be squished or get blisters when I wear them - happy feet, happy hiking!!

๐Ÿ˜ด Always take an eye mask. Iโ€™ve no idea how anyone sleeps in a tent without one - it was light at 4:30am this morning!!
And ear plugs for that matter - those birds have no respect for it being too early!

๐Ÿซ Always take emergency chocolate - extra to the standard supply of sweets and chocolate that you think you need. Someone will inevitably have a meltdown and need a giant energy boost. It may even be you!

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Do your strength training so you can enjoy it! Honestly Iโ€™d never have been able to do days like this a few years ago. At the least it would have floored me for days after and at the worst Iโ€™d have been super slow, hated every second and been terrible company as a result!

I hope youโ€™ve had a great weekend whatever youโ€™ve done ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

One magic exercise ๐Ÿ’ซ
Definitely not!
But I do use this exercise in many different forms with most clients. Why?

๐ŸŒŸ we get to breathe nice and deeply with nothing preventing the feeling of expansion
๐ŸŒŸwe can feel the pelvic floor in an open position - normally easier for most than in supine
๐ŸŒŸ that open PF feeling helps to get engagement there and through to the lower abs
๐ŸŒŸ the pelvis is free to move
๐ŸŒŸ the shoulder blades get some good work along with the abs/PF
๐ŸŒŸ you can add challenge in a ton of different ways

Have you tried this exercise?
What did you feel?
Are you able to engage your PF and lower abs more strongly than before?

๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ As a starting point for understanding how to reverse the posture changes from pregnancy this is a pretty good exercise to start with.
Let me know if you have any questions!

The wonderful Michaela Thomas sat down with me for Episode 80 of the Mother of All Movement Podcast and gave us some beautiful advice on self-compassion.

I hope you have a watch/listen here and it gives you a moment of calm and release in life right now.

Sending love to all โ™ฅ๏ธ

One of the most profound and effective mindset techniques I use with clients is helping them to reconnect with their self-compassion.

Itโ€™s a tough one for mums, weโ€™re constantly self critical and judgemental about how much weโ€™re not measuring up to our expectations.

My client Kathy has found fantastic transformation by being self-compassionate and then taking action based on that compassion.

Through motivated action, which meant she took in and applied all the work weโ€™ve done together, Kathy was able to go out for a long walk and fun with her 2 sons. Most crucially she got to spend some quality time with her middle son which she doesnโ€™t have much opportunity to do normally.

When weโ€™re more kind to ourselves and less judgemental for our apparent failings, we nurture ourselves towards where we want to get to and how we want to show up in life.

Nasal breathing, aids to help better breathing, tongue position and why itโ€™s all so important for your pelvic floor:

To sum up this weekโ€™s chat on nasal breathing here are some helpful tips for making it all more effective:
1. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Use a nose strip to help expand your nostrils - excellent for sleeping to ensure you nose and not mouth breathe
2. ๐Ÿคญ Use mouth tape to block mouth airway and get the max from your nose - normal K Tape is great for this, especially if your jaw doesnโ€™t align perfectly, otherwise these other strips are good too
3. Use an airway opener like this one to open the nostrils from the inside - great for when exercising and for something reusable
4. ๐Ÿ‘… Tongue position is key - your tongue needs to be on the roof of your mouth and relaxed. Check out the brilliant advice from for more on this

๐Ÿ˜ค So if you can breathe through your nose easily, explore some more if you can do it while youโ€™re exercising too - big challenge!

๐Ÿค” If you canโ€™t breathe easily through your nose, try working on it and seeing if nose strips help you.

๐Ÿค— When we breathe through our nose = deeper, fuller diaphragm breath = more response from the pelvic floor.

BONUS PODCAST EPISODE DROPS NOW!!
Ep 91 and the true finale of Season 5 of the Mother of All Movement Podcast is with the incredible Chemmy Alcott - possibly the most enthusiastic and motivating person in the world!

She has a mission to talk about fear, anxiety and failure especially for women and mothers and to talk about the realities of working motherhood.

Chemmy has lived a pretty interesting life so far - taking herself off to New Zealand on her own to train with a coach there every summer from when she was 10 years old, competing in her first international competition age 13 and going on to become Britains most successful female skier with 4 Olympic appearances and 5 appearances in the Top 5 world rankings.

Sheโ€™s also broken most bones in her body and we talk about holding some in reverse compared to going all out and the consequences of that.

I hope you love this conversation as much as I did, Chemmy is awesome and loads of fun to chat to. Thank you Chemmy ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป ๐Ÿ’™

Listen wherever you get your podcasts and please do leave a review and rating as well as subscribing so you get Season 6 first.
