Our Charged Bikes are UK-designed, compact and foldable, with road-legal pedal assist (250W, support cuts off at 15.5 mph) and up to 80 miles range depending on how and where you ride.

Worried about e-bike legality in the UK? Here’s the plain-English checklist that keeps an e-bike road-legal, and helps you buy with confidence.

UK road-legal e-bikes (EAPCs) must meet these key rules:

• Assisted speed limit, the motor assistance must cut off at 15.5 mph (25 km/h). You can ride faster, but the motor cannot keep helping above the limit.

• Motor rating, up to 250W continuous rated power (this is the legal rating, not peak output).

• Pedal assist, the motor should only provide assistance while you are pedalling.

Throttle rules, the part that causes the most confusion:

• A throttle that powers the bike without pedalling can take it outside EAPC rules.

• Some e-bikes can be used with a low-speed assist function and, in specific cases, a model may be capable of DVSA approval for throttle use. The exact legality depends on how the system is configured and approved, so it’s worth checking before you ride.

Why it matters:

• If an e-bike does not meet EAPC rules, it may be treated like a motor vehicle, which can mean extra requirements like registration, insurance, helmet rules, and a licence.

• We design our compact, foldable e-bikes to stay within UK EAPC limits, with clear, transparent guidance on setup, including throttle use where fitted.

• Range is always variable, but our bikes are built for up to 80 miles depending on rider weight, terrain, assist level, wind, and temperature.
