BUY SHARES IN YOURSELF

When you buy some designer gear, or a brand new car on finance, or another gadget you don't need, you think it's gonna feel a void, make you happier and give you something you didn't have before.

Eventually the novelty will wear off. It always does, as humans our brains are designed to get used to things.

Yes you get a few comments and likes on your socials, a temporary boost to your mood. But then that subsides and you need to look for your next hit. Your material possessions will never be enough.

When you spend money investing in yourself, no one gets to see that to begin with. Your mind thinks it's a waste of money, you're getting nothing to show off to anyone. Where's the dopamine hit?!

In time you will start to realise the value for money you are getting from your gym membership, your coach, PT or tutor. You're getting happier, fitter, energetic, healthier. Your self confidence is hitting new heights and you have a fresh zest for life.

At this point, EVERYONE NOTICES. When someone senses a more positive you, and they tell you personally, that compliment hits harder than any like on social media ever will.

Some might not tell you when they notice. They could be threatened or annoyed that this improved you is going places. Some might even make comments to get you back in your box. Your real friends will show you though.

Think carefully about what you invest your money in. It matters.

It's not a waste to spend it on getting help, or expert advice, or learning new skills. It's exactly what you should be spending money on. Personal growth, not stagnation. Looking to improve, not getting the green eyes looking at everyone else's amazing lives (another mirage).

I'd rather own nothing and be the happiest I've ever been, than own a load of flashy stuff but feel empty and restless all the time. Choose wisely.

WHY QUICK FIXES DON'T WORK

Quick fixes. We all want them. Why would you want to go the long way round to get the same result as just using a handy shortcut?

Makes complete sense. Be efficient with your time, effort and even money. Sounds great in theory.

But, I'll tell you why they don't work and why they don't bring you any kind of satisfaction, even if you do, kinda, for a little while, get the result you set out for.

Any time you go on a crash diet, or you try some sort of fat loss pill, or a sit up challenge to rid your belly fat, you are letting yourself down.

Basically, without knowing, you are signalling to yourself that you don't believe in yourself enough to do it the proper way. You are indicating that you doubt yourself, that you aren't willing to work hard to change.

These might really mean you either don't actually know deep down what you want, or the real reasons why you're doing it.

When you choose an easier, quicker option, there is a reward you can easily visualise at the end. But it's a reward you know you haven't really had to work hard for, so you don't appreciate it if and when you get it.

Which then means you don't value it, you can't keep hold of it, and you revert back to how you approached your life before. A body you don't like and a mind that tortures you about it.

Ask yourself if your quick fix, that thing you say you're doing just for a little while, to get ahead on your weight loss, ever worked for you before? It didn't last, and it didn't resolve anything did it?

It's a familiar cycle, and it just repeats itself. Again and again.

Boring isn't it? Aren't you fed up? You deserve better.

You can do it. I know you can. But you need to take a step back and think about doing it differently. Make the tougher choice.

Stop repeating the same mistakes and this time look at taking the bumpy, unpredictable and difficult road. It's the route you need to take to permanently change, and you'll learn so much more about yourself too.

5 WAYS TO AVOID MISSING YOUR WORKOUTS

1. Remove all obstacles - pack your bag the night before, get your gym clothes out of your wardrobe/drawers, in a prominent position, and have everything ready to go
2. Plan your week - think about how many workouts you can realistically fit in, allowing for life flexibility. Think about what you are going to do when you get to the gym? A small amount of planning can alleviate any anxiety and remove the feeling of being unprepared
3. Check your brain - when that voice in your head starts persuading you to sack it off, always ask yourself if that voice has ever had anything useful to say in times of need. I'm sure you'll agree it rarely does! It just wants you to stay in your comfort zone
4. Don't beat yourself up if you feel like you don't want to go - everyone gets that! It's not exclusive to you and happens to us all. No one is perfect, embrace the days you have high motivation and battle through the days it's low
5. It always comes down to what you want more - either your future self to be exponentially better, or your current self to be ever so slightly happier for a temporary amount of time. Don't give in. You are on this journey for your own reasons, tap into that

If you'd like some help with planning, discipline and not giving yourself such a hard time all the time, I'd love to help you smash your goals!

Couldn't be prouder of my new client Cheryl!

She had the courage to reach out on one of my posts and then throw herself in at the deep end by committing to 3 sessions a week.

She had a gym membership but hadn't been for a long time. She described "a brick wall had been built up in front of her" every time she thought about going back.

She'd had enough of never putting herself first.

"There are 24 hours in the day and I don't even spend one of those doing something for me"

Is this you? Do you want to actually start prioritising yourself? It doesn't make you less of a partner, or parent, it makes you human.

Get in touch now and lets plan how we can start getting you to feel the incredible benefits of exercise!

What would your PT journey look like with me?

Firstly, I'll tell you what it won't be about:

❌ It isn't making you sick or uncomfortable by being pushing you way beyond your current capabilities as some sort of punishment

❌ It isn't making you follow an extremely rigid nutritional plan which may get fast results, but is unsustainable, potentially unsafe and makes you unhappy

❌ It isn't telling you "you don't want it enough" or generally making you feel uncomfortable by not listening to you, plonking you on the scales and taking your photo in your workout gear

What it would be is:

✅ Working with you to come up with an exercise plan you enjoy, which is hard enough to allow you to feel the incredible benefits but without rendering you unable to move for days afterwards

✅ Me learning about your life, your relationship with food, and what's working for you, and what's not. Then coming up with some simple ways in which you can build sustainable habits that fit into how you already live

✅ Me asking the right questions, listening to your point of view and preferences, and making it as an enjoyable process as possible

✅ Working with you on your habits, mindset and mentality so you get as much out of it as you can, and are then able to go off independently when you feel ready to do so

I will give you the best platform to achieve your goals, if you are keen to learn and give me a chance to prove to you that YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES

BOOM!

Delighted to pass my Mental Health and Exercise exam to become a fully Certified Mental Health and Exercise Coach!

Achieved a mark of 97.1%. Absolutely buzzing!

In true Oscar speech acceptance style, a massive thank you to all the amazing tutors, mentors and experts on the course, all tagged in the photo. And to the other guys on the course, a truly inspiring bunch of people!

I've learned so much and feel extremely lucky to have found this award just at the point I was coming into the fitness industry.

To be honest it was at the same time as I was a bit of a lost soul myself. I can say with absolute certainty that being a part of this course has improved my mental health beyond measure.

It doesn't just give you the tools to help others, it gives you the tools to help yourself.

Rather than dwell on why I didn't get 100% 🤣 I will not be resting on my laurels. The hard work starts now!

If you either:

1. Struggle with poor mental health
2. Suffer from gym anxiety
3. Have low body confidence/image
4. Want a PT programme matched with your needs both physically AND mentally

Working with me could be exactly what you need to turn things around. Get in touch as I would love to work with you.

I will be doing a special MHEC Q&A on my Stories over the next couple of days to spread the word and give you the opportunity to ask what it's all about.

Save your questions up and stay tuned!

TIME FOR CHANGE?

Does your watch always show this?

Happy isn't just something you are or you aren't.

Even if we are quite content with how we feel about where we are, there's always that nagging feeling we could be happier.

Believe me, from experience I can say that improving your mood, your outlook on life and how successful you perceive your life to be, this is only something YOU CAN IMPROVE.

These aren't things that are controlled by other people, or events that randomly happen in your life. You have to go after it. You have to decide it's time to be better, be happier and go after what you want in life.

It's all in your control. Go after it and make it happen. No one is coming to save you, or complete your life, or solve your problems.

Exercise is the catalyst for all of this. I can show you how to learn to go after your goals, your happiness and better health.

DM me CATALYST now and lets plot your happier future!

New week, same non-negotiables.

What do you make sure you do without fail, each and every week?

These should be things you protect no matter what else you have going on, no matter who you may annoy, no matter what less helpful activities you have to put aside to do them.

Mine are:

🏋️‍♀️ At least 4 gym sessions a week
🍓 6 home-cooked nutritious evening meals a week
📕 Read for at least 15 minutes a day
🍺 6 days a week without alcohol
💤 7 hours sleep
🧠 A daily reminder to myself that perfection doesn't exist, just do your best
📈 To do at least one thing a week which pushes me outside of my comfort zone

It may sound rigid, or a bit militant, but if you want to alleviate anxiety, get more out of yourself and create the conditions to be at your best, it's important you have a plan to develop helpful habits that you will do consistently every week.

Your brain runs on habits. If you practice you become better at those things. This works both ways, keep practicing bad ones and you'll go that way. Keep practicing good ones and you'll get better at those.

Choose wisely!

This should worry you.

Why do young kids feel that they need to lose weight, even if they are considered healthy by the usual parameters?

They don't just decide this. They are affected by everything and everyone around them.

Their role models, social media and the messaging that slowly filters into their young and impressionable minds.

We need to set better examples as adults, as parents and as a society.

It involves taking individual responsibility and the solution isn't really just to say let's get better about our messaging around diets.

We need to start:

🏋️‍♀️ Looking after ourselves better, showing our kids that it is important to exercise and eat better for a longer and happier life. Kids need to see role models who are active, happy and energetic. And as young as possible they need to be guided to find a form of physical activity they love

🍓 Having a better relationship with food as adults that isn't about fast diets, labelling food as good or bad or trying to lose weight to impress anyone else. Children too often see that self worth is all about being a certain weight or being accepted for their looks, which makes them think they need to diet!

🧠 Have better relationships with ourselves. Yes you may let your health slip from time to time but searching for confidence and happiness in an external number like your weight or dress size won't solve it all. Help kids see that we should stop beating ourselves up so much and accept ourselves for who we are. Perfection is a myth. We should also be proactive rather than reactive around our health and happiness

❤️ Really start to think about how social media is reprogramming our kids. They are more anxious than ever, and it's nothing to do with them being snowflakes or any of that sh*te. It's because social media has infiltrated their lives and given them no escape to discover themselves. It's not going away, but start thinking about the impact your use of social media has on you, and also, consequently, the next generation too

We need to be better because the way it is at the moment, this is just the start of bigger, more severe problems for these kids as they grow older

19/07/2022

You will never regret a workout session once you've done it. You just have to do it, regardless of how you feel in that very moment.

Once you master sticking to your plan and ignoring temporary thoughts and feelings, that's when you crack it.

Discipline not motivation.
