⚽️ RESERVES MATCH REPORT ⚽️

Today was always going to be a game of small margins, against a side who have had success. I expected it to be a battle and tight game.
Unfortunately, our forward picked up an injury in the warmup meaning small changes needed to be made. There was another injury in the 15th minute of the game, meaning we were already short on numbers.
The boys started the game strong, playing some brilliant football. Looked on top especially in the first half. Wasn’t any real shots on target - bar chances for our wide players who rotated shifts down the middle. Fordham had a few dangerous set pieces that the lads dealt with well.
The half ended 0-0. The boys battled tremendously from front to back, couldn’t fault them. Just needed to relax and try to be on the ball for longer periods.
Second half was a similar affair - not much in it, end to end stuff but strong defending from both sides limited chances. Again, we had a few breakaways but no real shots on target, the lack of a goalscorer on the pitch for us was clear, though no fault of any of the lads but to be missing your goalscorer is always difficult. The only real chance was a goal line clearance which happened at both ends.
Fordham had a number of fouls and corners, eventually leading to their goal. A nice delivery that led to a scramble of an own goal which was unfortunate. The boys dug in and kept going but unfortunately it never fell in the back of the net. Last few attacks with slightly wrong decisions and an unfortunate header from a set piece left us 1-0 at full time.
Thoughts are: obviously disappointing to come away with nothing but ultimately can’t fault any of the lads for their desire. I strongly believe in this group, the quality and desire we have is tremendous. Especially with 80% of the team being 16-22.
We will bounce back, I guarantee. Well done to the firsts as well, up the Fenmen! 🔴⚪️
