Can you help??!!

It's approaching that time of year again when Wirksworth transforms into Wizarding Day.

By marshaling the Haarlem Mill carpark on Sunday 6th October, we'll continue to raise funds needed to cover fees such as the annual insurance. This is needed to keep the park open and we need your help. If you can spare some time on the 6th, please let us know.

Due to limited car parks in the town centre, we advise you to use one of the park and ride car parks rather than trying to park in the town itself. We have two edge-of-town park and rides with a London Routemaster double-decker bus shuttling visitors into the town centre. Blue-badge holders can park...

Thank you to everyone who shared our last post, and an ever bigger thank you to The Rhubarb Kitchen who have saved the day and will be selling hotdogs (vegi / vegan available too) at our opening event tomorrow, alongside sweet treats from Lumsdale cheesecakes!

Bit of a plea for help, we were due to have a pizza van at our opening celebration on Saturday, but due to the constant rain the park is too wet and they can’t get their van and trailer on site. If any local catering business would be interested in supporting our event we’d be delighted.

The set-up would need to be gazebo/table/bbq rather than van / trailer due to the site.

There are no pitch fees (just a small donation to cover ongoing maintenance costs for the skatepark) and caterers must have public liability insurance.

Please share with anyone you think might be interested and DM us if you think you can help.

If all else fails, we’ll have the lovely Lumsdale cheesecakes there so we’ll just eat cake for lunch!

As you will be able to see, we’ve changed the name of the much anticipated skatepark.

Whilst we are very happy to have a new skatepark, we sadly lost one of our key volunteers who has been an integral part of the skate community in Wirksworth for the last two decades. Josh Stockell sadly passed away in February following a short illness. Josh worked tirelessly to maintain the old wooden skatepark and could often be found raising funds at various events and calling on his circle of friends to support us. As a group we are deeply saddened by this loss, and therefore, with the support of his family, have decided to rename the skatepark “The Josh Stockell Community Skatepark.”

Just a gentle reminder, whilst we know there is a lot of excitement for the new skatepark, please stay away until construction is completed and the fences are removed. We don't want anyone to get hurt and an accident on the site is likely to delay our opening.

Please Help!!! Now that the skatepark is nearing completion we are looking for signs for sponsors logos and safety rules. Ideally this would be a donation or reduced cost as all the money has gone on the construction. Does anyone know of any companies that could help in return for having their logo on the sign?

After many years of fundraising, work will start in F***y Shaws Park this December to build a new skatepark and pump track for the people of Wirksworth. The first phase will involve laying a temporary road down to the skatepark. A lot of work has gone into arranging the associated permissions for this and we just want to reassure you that this is only temporary to allow for the construction to take place. The area will shortly be fenced off, but this should not stop people enjoying the top part of the park.

Please warn children of the dangers of construction sites and the importance of staying away from the fenced off areas. Please report any signs of antisocial behaviour or danger to life to the police.

We can't wait for the people of Wirksworth to enjoy this new space 😊
