We have had lots of retro kit kindly donated to us by Rosebank sports. We are in real need of replacing our ageing trackside defibrillator, so will be holding a sale to raise the funds. Photos of the kit in comments - lots of T-shirts, jackets, shorts, cropped vests and a few other items. A chance to get something cool! 💛💙

Later in the day, Bury AC hosted a festival of running followed by a series of BMC races in which four of our athletes were entered.

Sam Conkie continues to impress coming 2nd in the 800m "B" race in a new personal best time. Lily Coates and Imogen Ward also had strong runs in their respective women's 800's.

There was an early start for Andy Miles on Sunday morning when he raced to 2nd place in the "undulating" South Cheshire 20 starting from Shavington Leisure Centre.

Manchester League XC and Running Bear/ Asics shoe try-on

Just a reminder that Running Bear and ASICS will be visiting Knights Grange this Tuesday (8th Sept) and bringing with them a selection of running shoes which can be borrowed for the track session. They should be there from 6.30 onwards so please get there early so you can select a pair before the warm up and session.

Meanwhile the 1st Manchester League XC race of the year takes place on Saturday 10th October. Please would any seniors who want to be entered but have not already let us know advise Dave Haines or I by next Saturday (12th September). The cost is ÂŁ8 for the series plus an extra ÂŁ3 if you wish to do the Liverpool race because its part of the UK cross challenge. For non-seniors please advise the coach for your age group - Phil, Rob, Paula, Alex, Andy or Shaun.

14th November- Heaton Park, Manchester
28th November- Sefton Park, Liverpool

This evening we celebrated 1 year of our 'Run Together' group which is led by Lou and Eleanor. Several of our runners have been with us from day 1, and the group has gone from strength to strength!

Firstly, a catch up with a race I missed last week. Emily Lowery, representing Wales, was racing in Northern Ireland in the Antrim Coast Half Marathon. Emily finished in a time just a few seconds outside her personal best. Clara Pettitt, also made the trip to this lovely region.

The big event of this week was Friday night's Mid Cheshire 5K, this year being held with a revised start and finish to ensure results are valid for record purposes. Previously it was found that the original course exceeded the maximum permitted elevation drop of 5 meters over the 5K distance. Nevertheless, plenty of our runners improved their personal bests, including Chris Williams who was our first finisher in 25th place. Our first female finisher was Emilia Pyper who recently joined us from West Cheshire AC.

The Pettitt family took in a 5K night race whilst on their sojourn in Budapest. Edward crossed the finish line in 2nd place and Amelia was 3rd woman.

North West Road Relays and Running Bear/ ASICS shoe try-on

This year's North West Road Relays will take place on Saturday 12th September at Heaton Park in North Manchester.

There are races for all categories and for the junior age categories please register your interest with the coach of your group

U12s - Phil/ Rob
U14s - Alex/ Paula
U16s - Andy/ Shaun
U18s - Andy/ Shaun

However for the seniors (age 17 or over on 1st Sept 26) please let me know if you want to run. Legs are 5.2k each and there are teams of 4 for the men and 3 for the ladies. We can enter as many teams as we can fill and there's no minimum ability level. Those confirmed to date are:

Not a lot to report on this week but there was another Trafford Grand Prix at the Stretford track where our athletes did very well with most achieving new personal bests for their respective distances. Indeed Aaron Doyle ran in both the 3000m followed by a 1500m later the same evening and improved both personal records.

Race Results Newsletter Week 33 2026

Several club members competed on a very warm Wednesday evening at the Capenhurst 5K with Mark Crabtree being our first to cross the finish line in 55th place overall, but 5th over 45. Liz Renondeau was 1st over 45 and Debbie Broad 2nd over 55. Harriet Jones blitzed her previous best by 2:20 in her first race in Vale colours.

Sam Conkie went much further afield on Saturday evening, attending a BMC regional meeting up in Jarrow. The trip proved very worthwhile with Sam winning the 800m “B” race in a time which was faster than the winner of the “A” race. Sam set a new personal best knocking over a second off his previous mark.

On Sunday morning. Oulton Park was the venue for one of Run Through’s multiple distance events with races over 5K, 10K, HM, 26.2K (metric marathon), 20M and full marathon.
Young Harvey Brown crossed the line in 2nd place in the 10K followed by George Frost in 3rd. Meg White was 4th woman. Charlotte Millington was 9th overall and 2nd woman in the 26.2K metric marathon while Elliott Lambert won the 20-miler.

On Sunday afternoon Sportsshoes sponsored another set of Podium 5K races, this time at the Tameside Cycle circuit in Ashton-under-Lyne. There were various races starting with an open race followed by a men’s “B” race, elite women and elite men’s races.
Charlie Weaver went under 16 minutes for the first time in the “B” race. In the elite women’s race, Holly Weedall came 4th while Aaron Doyle equalled his personal best in the elite men’s race.
